Sure. I get it. I do hear that a lot though. All the banks holding on to all the money = fear and people doing odd things with hard assets. Inflation has to be coming, but when? I could see someone buying a nice S or RS to hold on to, but this car at that money is a ridiculous gamble. Will it be worth that 10 years from now? Why or why not? If you think of all the cars that go for big money what do they usually have that makes them worth that?

It all gets very confusing.... earnings reports are managed..... responses are planned..... who knows why something happens was it planned or was it passion.... there is no doubt in my mind that this car could be easily replicated for considerably less than $275,000 which makes it less than investment grade hard asset. The answer is in the market place will other hot rods show appreciation.... If history is repeated the four current Hot Rods on the market will be gobbled up next week by dealers and they will be showing up a week later on the usual sites...

No, but he touched it and gave me the thumbs up at Rennsport. He bought My dad's race car, and Patrick Long has raced my car on many occasions.... That's gotta be worth something. Haha-

Magnus is a cool guy, good for him.
    Thanks,
    Chad

a and b. While it is a nice build, there are lots of those out there. The car had a lot of press, and people like to associate with fame.

RE: currency wars and hard assets, maybe somewhat. Still, if you look at what oil has done this year (stable, rig count down), gas (languishing at a cyclical low), gold, copper, etc. basically down year over year, real assets are not just increasing across the board. So, while the Fed has been printing money like crazy, it seems to be the case that a nice, famous car sold for a crazy price!

I suspect this purchase is an expression of irrational exuberance.
