    Fuchs meeting protocol, may, 4th 1965

    @all

    today is „may the fourth be with you" day, and also at this very day in 1965, there had been a meeting at the Fuchs factory in order to finalize the design for the special option „forged wheels“.

    Fuchs itself had today this „meeting protocol page“ posted. I had it translated, as far as I could, with only having page one.

    Further below I do have pictures of the T4 Targa prototype 500 004, which had the prototype fuchs alloys mounted at the IAA motorshow in September 1965 in Frankfurt.

    As you can see, these are clearly different from the later known version. The bahama is wearing the correct rims…

    If someone has the further pages of the protocol..just post them and I‘ll get it translated.

    Entwicklung eines Leichtmetall-PKW-Rades für die Firma Porsche, Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen

    Nachdem sich die Firma Porsche grundsätzlich für das geschmiedete Leichtmetallrad als Sonderzubehör für Ihre Fahrzeuge entschieden hat, fand am 4. 5. 65 eine Besprechung im Hause Porsche statt, um die endgültige, konstruktive Gestaltung festzulegen.

    Gegenüber unserem Vorschlag nach Zeichnung E 6125.2.65 hatte

    Herr Porsche. jun. aus stilistischen und optischen Gründen die Form der 5 Verbindungsstege zwischen Nabe und Felge geändert. Die neue Form wurdo uns an Hand eines Modells vorgestellt.

    Während sich unsere Konstruktion der Form der ausgelaufenen Serien-Fahrzeuge gut anpasste, wirkt die von Herrn Porsche jun. entwickelte Form für das neue Fahrzeug harmonischer.

    Außer den Verbindungsstegen wird der Felgenrand geändert. Gegenüber dem wulstartigen Rand wird nunmehr eine Fläche gewünscht, von der sich lediglich eine kleine Stoßkante abhebt. Bei dieser Konstruktion können die Ausgleichgewichte nicht mehr aufgeklemmt werden, sondern sie müssen im Inneren der Felge aufgeklebt werden.

    Um die Gestaltfestigkeit zu erhöhen, hat Porsche den Wunsch, die Rippen der Verbindungstege bis zur Felgenmitte zu verlängern. Obwohl wir grundsätzliche Bedenken äußerten, ist Herr Rall von der Firma B&K der Überzeugung, daß es trotz dieser Rippen möglich ist, ein einwandfreies Abstrecken der Felge zu erreichen.

    Porsche ist aus Raumgründen (Einbau der Scheibenbremse) gezwungen, das Felgenbett leicht konisch auszubilden.

    Da wir jedoch, bis au den aufgewerteten Rand, im Rohteil eine zylindrischen Form benötigen, wird hierdurch die Länge der Rippen bestimmt. Der im Fertigteil benötigte Konus kann daher erst in der ausgeweiteten Rohteilzone beginnen.

    Sollte eine geringfügige Rippenverlängerung im Bereich des Fertigteilkonus notwendig sein, so kann diese nach Aussagen von Herr Fall beim…..

    After the Porsche company decided in principle in favor of the forged alloy wheel as a special accessory for their vehicles, a meeting took place at Porsche on May 4th, 1965 to determine the final structural design.

    Compared to our proposal according to drawing E 6125.2.65

    Mr. Porsche. jun. had, for stylistic and visual reasons, the shape of the 5 connecting bars between hub and rim changed. The new form was presented to us on the basis of a model.

    While our design is well adapted to the shape of the discontinued series vehicles, that of Mr. Porsche jun. developed shape for the new vehicle seems more harmonious.

    In addition to the connecting bars, the edge of the rim is changed. Compared to the bead-like edge, a surface is now desired from which only a small abutting edge stands out. With this construction, the counterweights can no longer be clamped on, but must be glued inside the rim.

    In order to increase the structural stability, Porsche wants to extend the ribs of the connecting bars to the middle of the rim. Although we expressed fundamental concerns, Mr. Rall from the company B&K is convinced that it is possible to achieve perfect ironing of the rim despite these ribs.

    For reasons of space (installation of the disc brake), Porsche is forced to design the rim well slightly conically.

    However, since we need a cylindrical shape in the blank, except for the enhanced edge, this determines the length of the ribs. The cone required in the finished part can therefore only begin in the expanded blank zone.

    If a slight extension of the ribs in the area of ​​the precast cone should be necessary, according to Mr. Fall, this can be done at...

    Yes, Very interesting. I hope you can find the other pages. That first design is quite different.
