making Patina to form an idea

Now this may be a bit cheesy , but i have been toying with the idea of continuing the degrade of the paint on my 76s R-gruppe car to get a "Just Raced " look on it . the car has been through the works with interior / wheels/motor to give a period race look close to a 74rs. i have to complete the rear rs bumper but we are close . Now alot of people at this point would go "new paint time " but the paint is nicely damaged , marked , used and i look at it thinking ,add period correct decals and a race number then patina the crap out of it ...so question other then the good old 1000 grit what other ideas give the paint / decals the look like it has just done the rounds at daytona

I agree with Cam, put the decals on and create the patina.
Every chip, scratch and mark tells a story that cant be reproduced.

Buy a helmet and get your Patina at the track.
I suggest 6 track days every year for 10 years.
It should give you fine Patina and some great stories to go with it.

the paint has that "track look " coming along nicely but new decals need the work maybe before adding to the body. we shall trial some material to see

You need some of Jens tire rub decals.

Nothing like a rubber dounut to get that just raced feeling.
