Thread: Frosted Fuchs?

    Frosted Fuchs?

How is the frosted Fuch look achieved? Are they media blasted or is it a silver anodizing or paint? If it is done via media blasting what media is used and what kind of pressure setting? I've read a lot of DIY Fuch resto threads and thought maybe I'd look into "fixing" my polished deep-6's so they aren't so bright. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks,

If you blast with crushed glass the "frosted" look is "brighter" than with sand and typically it flows better. I had used a mixture of "black beauty" and sand and prefer the crushed glass. I was blasting at about 60psi with success on alum. Also the crushed glass gives a smoother finish in my opinion. You will need to tape off, paint, and clear to protect the finish.

The original "Frosted" finish was made inadvertently in the anodizing process.
It can be very hard to reproduce as it is anodize and follows the grain of the forging..and the flaws or in the case of old wheels, it follows the corrosion.
If you don't have the access to the anodizing or proper prepping, you can get very close with paint.
Any blasting will come out too dark when cleared.
Many of the semi gloss or flat clears will look close.
Some of the silvers work well as a base also..

    Gents,

Thanks for the replies. I found a pretty interesting thread on Pelican that has several techniques and read through that fairly extensively. It was a budget RSR look thread so obviously not the way the factory accomplished the look originally. It mentioned media blasting, scotch bright pads and various paints and clears as well. I'm a little apprehensive about possibly doing something to my wheels that would make them unrestorable in the future.

With that, the original look of my deep-6's was achieved by clear anodizing over a polished clean rim is this correct? Was it a flat clear or gloss clear anodizing? Thanks for the info,

I followed this http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...results-4.html and used 3M Scotchbrite grey pads. Very pleased with the results. I use some stainless steel cleaner occasionally to clean the surface.
