Thread: '74 Carrera - center dash vent?

Question '74 Carrera - center dash vent?

    Hi all,

I've been reading up on US spec '74 Carreras and can't seem to find much info on their dashboards (did a search here, too). Most, like 90%, of the pictures I see reveal a vent (?) in the center of the dash top that looks as if its cover is removable. I've seen at least two other variations though: no vent at all, and a vent with perforations but that is not removable (e.g. the dash itself is perforated).

My question is, which of these is "original"? More specifically - I believe the removable cover style is original since I've seen so many configured that way. I guess my question is, can either of the other styles be original? The attached pic shows one with no vent (for example).

    Thanks!

You are referring to the center speaker grille, a Cary-over from the lab, long hood cars.

The car in this link has a correct dash, with correct center speaker grill.

The dash you have pictured would be correct for model year 1976 only. In 1976, Porsche removed the center speaker and in 1977 they added a center fresh air vent which carried on in 2 different flavors through the 993 models.
