Converting 73 with LWB door handles to SWB door handles

Looking for guidance on what is involved with putting SWB external door handles on my 73 hotrod. Can I reuse the lock mechanism from my current door handle into the SWB handle? Or do I need to purchase a new lock mechanism and have it rekeyed to match my ignition? The chrome of my current handle is badly pitted and was thinking would prefer change to the older style handle rather than re-chroming or replacing with the correct 73 style handle. Any guidance would be appreciated.

You can mount the SWB door handles to your 73 (as I have) but reusing your lock mechanism will not work as I have found out. The ignition lock is also different, I'm backdating my 73 with early parts and purchased a set of early door handles and ignition lock set with matching keys and thought that I could simply remove my ignition and replace it with the earlier one but electrical connections are different.

There might be a locksmith who's familiar with these cars that can do the swap but I haven't found one yet.

Keep me posted on your progress.

Thanks for info. Am doing the same as you and will let you know where I get to. Checking to see if anyway that SWB handle can be fitted with tumbler that will accept the same key as the 73 ignition. Don't want to have two separate keys.
