In a cold winter I decided to remove the batts and did a nice shortcut with the upper part of the origional 2 pieces strap to one of the + pole.

So I decided to go this way. No upper parts will hang arround, when removing the batts and the ground with one hand

Thank you Ed. Looks like this is the only way to go if you want to prevent any damage due to leaks.

What's the latest thought on this? I have Interstates and they're toast. Did you ever cut the cases and install the agm's? Does anyone have pics of the miata battery install? I need to do something this week, and I really dont want to re-invent the wheel. I'd like to use agm's but I am concerned about the electrical/ charging requirements vs the old charging system in the 72t.

David, is that battery supplied by Bosch or a fake sticker? I use the generic Miata AGM batteries produced by East Penn and typically have the model number: 8amu1r

These are in both my S and RSR rep and work well. I do keep them hooked up to trickle chargers so no drain ever. Work very well.

What are you guys/girls doing that make batteries such a problem? My '69 Karmann coupe has a Sears Die Hard Group 58 battery that cost $49.99 when I installed it on October 1, 2002. No leakage or other problems during 15 years, 11 months of service. No trickle charger or battery tender ever used. The only modification employed to give this long life is a battery cut-off switch that totally isolates the battery when the car is not in daily use.

Leakage is usually the main problem, but really, 16 years with the same battery?
You certainly got your money's worth, I think 6 years is my record.
