From my experience, longevity is not a problem. Currently using three Sears Plus Start 60 batteries in other cars that are at 17 years 6 months, 17 years 11 months and 19 years 5 months respectively. I firmly believe that the battery disconnect switch is the reason for their long lives along with eschewing the use of trickle chargers, battery tenders, etc., that shorten battery life by constantly changing a battery's natural equilibrium. What with questions about Sears quality and the closing of their stores, I have no idea what I'll do when I finally do need a new battery.

Just a follow up note of current cost of the Sonneschein gel battery after I contacted Lauderdale battery:

    Eric:

We do not carry an AGM type of batteries for the Porsche but I do carry a gel type. We have the A512/40A and your cost each is $185.00 plus freight. Most of the Porsche have 2 batteries in them. If you call or email back with your address I can get you a freight rate for shipping the batteries. Please let me know if it a commercial address or residential.

    Thanks

Check out Odyssey Bateries. Modern AGM that can mount in multiple positions. Small and compact and will easily fit in battery box. Ships charged ready to install. Photos are a '72.

    NOT CHEAP

    Anyone heard of this brand...

    https://en.liteblox.de

Only need one. Weighs approx. 1.9 kg. Can use it for anti theft and other features via smartphone.

You can buy 4 -6 batteries weighing 4-6 times more per battery.

Where to the battery vents go? Hate to just drill a hole for the vent hoses. Where was their original location?

There wasn't an original location,,,,,run your vent out where the large plastic plugs are for the front bumper bolts, right in front of the washer bottle.

The new Porsche batteries with the vent don't always fit with the 90 degree vent tube in place. Some do some don't. I have run into a few cars that the battery box just isn't wide enough to accommodate the 90 degree plastic barb that goes into the battery. You can't slide the battery in the box with it attached.

Interstate, here in Canada anyway, says that U911 battery isn't available any more... They did a bit of digging and figure the MTP-T4 could fit--searching hasn't turned up any first-hand experiences.

Local Porsche dealer quoted something like CAD$350.

    Which Odyssey does everyone like?

I found a company in England that sells various decals and stickers including Varta, Koni, Bosch, etc.

    Check out: www.isaydingdong.co.uk

Shipping to the U.S. for decals is an entirely reasonable two bucks or so.

Just installed dual Sonnenscheim gel type A512/40A batteries per Ed Mayo’s recommendation. $185 each +$60 to ship from Florida to San Diego. Bought them from Marine & General Battery Inc. in Ft Laurderdale. Fit is great, including the rubber cap on the + terminal. The car fired right up, so I think I’m good to go for a while.
