    Rear wheel hub clean up

    Hi all-

How should I clean up the rear wheel hub? Blast and plate/paint, nothing? Should I protect the bearing sleeve? Thank you for the help in advance.
    Cheers,

    Ron

    Ron,
On my 66 I didn't want to blast as it heats up the metal damages anything rubber and there is possiblity of warpage ( pros and cons either way!) Possiblity of blast media getting to places you'd never think it would.
I first of all I used a degreaser, then I used a lot of scrapers, scotch brite, arm muscle, time and patients. My .02 worth.

I cleaned (like David), then I soda-blasted mine to get some clean 'tooth', then painted. I did protect the machined surfaces.

+1 with Brian, if you protect the machined surfaces with over kill covering, duck tape, etc.. it mitigates potentual damage from blast to a certain extent. However I've had friends who took every precaution and still wound up with media in places they never thought they'd see! Its a dice throw, in that some have unbeliveable results with blast media and others who wish they'd never done it!

Where would you find a media tumbler that large?
