1969 Rear Light Housing Drain Hole

    Hi Everyone,

I've just introduced myself in a separate thread covering the restoration of a 69S. Thought I'd ask this under separate title in case someone searches later.

When comparing the rear light housing drain hole, as well as on the unibody, on my 69 I notice the drain hole is close to the outer convex side, whereas on a 75 I have the housing/body hole location is closer to the concave side.

The mounted housings are 69's, the separate one is a 75 (or at least was on my 75).

I mention this because when I see housings for sale, they most often say 69 to 89. Which appears not to be the case if you want the drain holes to line up.

This may have been covered before - just an observation.

    Best,

    Sean

Just a guess, but maybe they don't line up on purpose, to keep dust and water from having a direct route into the light housing?

    Bob,

They do line up. The "difference" I am illustrating is only when putting a 75 housing in a 69 body.

The 69 light housings and the 69 body line up perfectly. And the 75 housing and the 75 body line up perfectly as well, but in a different location. So at some point (I would guess when the body changed 73/74) they decided to move the drain hole location further toward the concave side.

I'n not sure why exactly, but there was probably a good reason.
