    Rear Caliper Identification: Ate 51R

    Hi Guys

Could I get some help identifying the rear calipers that came with my car (69E). They are stamped with Ate 51R and the piston diameter is 48mm. I need to rebuild them, and the seals in the Pelican catalogue for MY 69 are 38mm in diameter. Therefore, I'm thinking these calipers are from a different car?

I'm trying to avoid ordering the wrong parts.

    Thanks
    Darren

48mm pistons say that this is a front caliper; brake line connection shows this also. These are too big for the rear since it will cause the rear to be over-braked. You need the proper rear calipers.

I found a thread elsewhere on this topic and added to it. The ear spacing is 3", so definitely not Porsche Fronts. As indicated in that thread, these must be from a different car.

They are definitely front M calipers. They are Porsche calipers but will not work as rear calipers on your car.

Thanks guys. For someone new to Porsche, I certainly need to be carefull what I find and read. I always tend to look or ask here on this board first. I also emailed back and forth with Eric at PMB who gave excellent advice and also confirmed also that they are M calipers. Thanks for all the support. I will need to exchange these for a pair of proper rears to maintain the proper fore/aft balance.
