One of the 10 pre-production Targas

Boy, how do you post anything the same day as the announcement that a 901 was unearthed?

I have one of the pre-production Targas (First 10 that came off the line in Aug/Sep '66 prior to stopping production temporarily.)

There are a couple of anomalies the least of which is the absence of the tensioning handles/latches for the rear window (Obviously they realized THAT was a big boo boo.) Also the Targa bar base mouldings are chrome brass and lack the radius corners.

Before we start the restoration I would love some background if anyone has anything. Hoping it's the Irish Green car in the '66/67 Targa brochure. (One can hope, right?)

    Thanks.

Ay-yay-yay! --- where do You Guys find this stuff?

I'd definitely try to get my hands on the Kardex . . . this thing must have one whale of a story to go w/ it

    More pictures, too, please?

    Updated the post.

Rick, boring story and the thing needs a total resto, but no rust anyway.

    BTW: Like your non-unisong. Ha!

Thanks Tomas for following up with Porsche and providing some of the background for these cars.
    Weird indeed.

Oh, one other interesting tidbit; the Targa bar has more of a polished finish rather than brushed. And appears to have never been off the car.
