Thread: Introduction and '73 revival project

    Sure Mark.

Wevo make their short shift kit - really shifter and coupling - but it is usually seen with a machined aluminium shaft. However, they also make a 'classic' which has a black painted round tubular shaft mimicking the original look. I wanted to retain that for my car but also have the improved shifting experience. To fit it to an early car - mine was an early build '73 with a 4 speed box (now 5) and did not come with the alloy shifter base - you need to have that 74- alloy base. When buying one, your will see that there are 05 and 06 versions. The 06 version is the 'late' model and works with the Wevo without any modification. The 05 will work too but requires some modifications.

    Cheers,
    Mark

Let's see, what excuses can I make for slow progress?...How about the intervention of buying a 69S project?.. Well, it's true but it hasn't actually slowed this one down...that's just been a case of all good things take time.

So this update is all about wheels.

One thing with early 911's is that there's no magic formula as to what you can actually get under the guards although there are some great threads here and lost of experienced words to rely on as a starting point. The original plan was to run 7" rims all around but with staggered rubber based on an ideal split of 205 on the front and 225 on the rear all with no external modification apart from rolled guards.

The rims made up by Fikse have had a mix of 205, 215 and 225 test tyres fitted and are now mounted as below. So the verdict? You tell me. These are the 225's and the 205's as originally planned. And the really interesting point?... no spacers front or rear as you see them fitted here and still room to set the car up aggressively lower after its shakedown. Today I'm smiling.

Well it's been a couple of months at least but here's the first report that the car has been completed and now sits in my parking garage awaiting the new wheels and tyres so here's a 'proof' phone snap. Watch this space for more and better.

How does it drive? Wow! It drives "Wow!". Not tested to any limits and obviously on the old rubber, it looks like all the modelling and calculations on the engine and the suspension have been right on the money.

    Cheers,

A few more shots outside and with a better weapon. Still the transporter wheels and tyres fitted but more to come with the whole thing done… just a few little 'to do items' like hood crest, engine bay decals etc

    Cheers,

What better way to close out the build thread than with a shot of me entering the track to participate in the parade of 400 cars as part of the local historic races honouring Porsche?
