great color very nice car, I'm sure you are aware that on a 73 the areas above in white should be body color too.

Thanks and yes, we're onto it with the parts currently shown in undercoat. ;-)

Faced a bit of a dilemma with the doors (as you will see in the below photo) where the inside was originally only ever single pass blown in body colour but seeing as this is not any attempt to perfectly replicate, went with what will be longest lasting with the weather etc…cavities will be waxed etc…after all, 'sport purpose' is about driving. :-D

Well, no work going on over the Christmas vacation but a little fun was had opening the goodies that Santa delivered (I can't believe I was that good in 2013!)

And seeing as the 911, is still some miles from being a 'ride', and it's summer down here south of the Equator…. today was time to take the other ride out for some sedate fun as adult supervision for some friends in roller-skates.

    Where it all began

I've been asked for some 'before' shots so here they are. No real commentary except to say sorry for the poor quality of some which are scans and also to say that I almost felt bad about tearing down the engine given it was showing almost identical figures on each cylinder! Felt less bad when we got the chain cover soft and saw that someone had at some point swapped in solid racing tensioners! New cam gears straight onto shopping list. By the way, also shown is the original aubergine 25 ) paint tag and the only rust we found; under the headlight and in the bucket.

And yes that is the original registration and it sat on the car in a desert shed since 1996 when the injection started playing up.

Thanks. However, you've just hit the one really sad part about the whole project.

The dark tan upholstery - based on the rear seats - was pretty cool but it looks like most of the rest of the panels etc had been replaced over the years with a mish mash of colours and vinyls/leathers. As I had committed to wanting sports seats, the most economical approach to that was having Stefan's GTS replicas but that left a question mark over the covering given all panels and the rears had to match. Strangely, the COA showed a special original leather colour for the interior so there was no real way to reference grain and colour for suppliers located half a world away.

Consequently, and after a LOT of sample checking etc, it became obvious that I could get the colour but with BMW or Benz grains or I could get the Porsche grain but not in the right colour…one of the little frustrations of restoring a car - hence I call this a revival. A soft option has been taken with grain matched leather in black for the whole interior along with lightweight Perlon carpets which will lighten the colour field as well in combination with the bone headliner (as opposed to the as bought dark brown naugahyde).

Because I'm not look to make the car 100% original I'm now sort of OK with compromising on this and apart from what the above posts show as non-original, there are a couple of little sweet treats of non-originality to be revealed over the coming months.

And to whoever gave this thread a 'terrible' one star rating….I would have appreciated a PM telling me what protocols etc I may have broken - I'm new here so the last thing I want to do is offend what I see as an intelligent and helpful community.
