    Mod Fest...

A few more bits and bobs…..

…really pleased with the fibreglass engine lid and bonnet, very light and should tweak and paint perfectly…

…no torsion hole cover being used so we did away with the pressing for a smoother look…

…battery box delete and bumper mount backdating….

…the doors really are Barry art..…

    …arches lightly rolled….

…and no need for an engine lid release…

…mod to enable gearbox to be removed with engine in situ….

Barry wasn't quite happy with how the retaining screws sat on the closing plate, therefore the evening before I collected he made up this special tool to add 'dimples' so that the screws would sit flush…

…Mr Carter sure does have class!

My sincere thanks for everything Barry…..as I've said once before…..'the best money I've ever spent!'

    Cheers,

Fantastic progress Darren! Thanks for all the great pictures.
I remember in December 2008 when I discovered Barry & Alan for the first time. I hoped they would not become too popular, so I could maybe bring my 2,2 over to the UK one day. Still possible, I know, but guess it will not be cheaper when more and more people see Barry´s work in threads like this

Wow, you've packed 10 cars worth of cool details into one. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

    Thanks Schiefer,
The car featured in the magazine affectionately earned the name 'Swampy'......throughout my build Barry kept referring back with comments like 'oh, this is much worse than Swampy'.....I cringed every time!

Although Swampy took more hours, mine has had more work....Barry is more efficient these days and has a better set up.....just as well really as he has a 2-3 year waiting list!.....other than that he hasn't changed, still charges the same rates and rarely charges for all the time he puts in.....like I said, a class act!

Thanks for all the feedback guys.

    Cheers,

    A change of plan….

The Early 911S Registry has been responsible for a couple of changes to my project recently….

…..the plan was to keep everything on this car pretty period and certainly pre-78.

It was suggested that my original idea of a single trombone oil cooler might be a little lacking with circa 250BHP to chill and a 3.2 matrix cooler might be a better bet….this was to be my little post-78 'cheat'.

But then I noticed the cross over pipes Gib Bosworth had fitted to his light yellow ST …..

….mated to twin 28-row brass early IB oil coolers I figured Gib's solution is much more in keeping with my build and a very cool solution in the knowledge that I'm unlikely to ever find (or afford!) an original set of Behr's……so this is the new plan and I'm no longer cheating…..well it ain't a good idea if nobody copies it right?….hope Gib doesn't mind! ……

    Another change to spec…..

Whilst looking out for a ZF LSD I came across a thread on here with a very concise appraisal of diff options currently available and a number of recommendations for the LSD supplied by Guard Transmissions……I sought the advice of Mike Bainbridge who's rebuilding my 915 and he suggested for various reasons the GT diff would indeed be a superior option for me… http://www.guardtransmissionllc.com/ ...Many thanks to Matt Monson at GT for all his help and advice, a great guy to deal with.

Not sure if binning the ZF route is a cheat but at least you can't see this one……..which I think is a great, great shame!…….

    Cheers,
