The 73 RSR uses 2 fuel pumps both running together, but no switch, just the ignition. I personally think switches are a good idea but the factory did not use them. The two small switches under your dash in the picture would be for the CDI boxes. That is where the RSR had them. If you need pictures of different items or areas I have a 73 RSR that I can take pictures of.

Thanks Mike, that's very good of you.

I’ll also be using switches under the dash for CDI boxes.

My fuel pump query comes from being able to get very close to an original RSR recently which is the source of my switches photo above. As you say, no pump switches the other side….

….I wasn't aware that both pumps worked in unison….I always thought one was a back-up in case the first failed and hence the ability to switch from one to the other (with the aid of a switch?)……would earlier ST's have been different in this case from the RSR?

    Cheers,

Also, I should caution you about putting all these ST features in a car WITHOUT ST FLARES....some would call it 'FIA homologation blasphemy'. It still isn't too late...you might as well just do it before the paint gets on it...you will want them before you're through with the car...
I attended the unveiling of Mike's car last April, quite an occasion….great to see Neil blasting it up the road, looked and sounded absolutely awesome! …..

Gib, tempting as it is, you haven't quite turned me from staying with my skinny look…..I must admit I love the look of ST arches but if I went that route I'd probably end up painting it light yellow!

    Jigsaw Pieces….

    Jigsaw slowly coming together...

…..received a couple of update photos from Gary…...shiny stuff always looks good! …...

….we decided to go with gold plate on some parts!….

….the wishbones are new items that were stripped…..

    …..and then strengthened…...Gary suggested adding some drain holes…...but I like slots! ….

….back onto the final stages of paint this week and getting the good vibe back again!

Thanks Mike, I really appreciate the feedback.

Definitely seems there was never any switches but being told elsewhere that only one pump operated at a time with the second as back-up; both pumps wired and plumbed in but the spare disconnected with switching over performed manually if the first pump failed?.......but then I guess there was much variation with no two cars being exactly the same!

    Slowly, slowy, catchy, monkey!…..

A few weeks ago the car looked like this….

…guide coat sanded back and high build primer applied it now looks like this…..awesome transformation! ….

…considering it had a new roof and the rear quarters were unpicked before being refitted the gutter detail is sublime …..

…..in fact there is a huge difference in how the car looks and we're just about ready for colour….first though we're attempting to use the fibreglass rear bumper that came with my E, transforming it into a narrow body, short horn bumper with room for twin tailpipes….

    ….first job…get rid of those flares! ….

    930 Brakes...

Progress has stalled of late…the plan to modify and use the RS bumper I inherited with my 2.4E was becoming really messy and looking like a dogs breakfast, just too poor quality….a quality replacement has now been sourced and we'll be heading to full colour soon.

In the meantime I've been sourcing the remaining parts I need for my build……although I want to keep this a 'period' type build I chose a fictitious 1978 build date so I could incorporate things like 74 aluminium trailing arms with a bigger bearing and 930 brakes etc.

Last year I obtained a quote from my local OPC for a set of 930 callipers, I decided not to purchase them at the time, I couldn't really afford them and decided to spread my resources, focusing on more pressing items…..

    ….….well I wish I had!

I recently had a fresh quote and price of the callipers has shot up an eye-watering amount, it made last years price seem distinctively good value!…..my local OPC did their best to help and as they'd already quoted and put in a request to Porsche parts for pricing support….unfortunately unsuccessful.

My plans looked in jeopardy and wasn't sure if I could justify having these callipers however I decided to explain my plight to Porsche Customer Services to see if they could help….

….a few days later I received a call from a very nice young lady from Porsche who said they sympathised with my position, appreciated the support of early 911 enthusiasts and due to the circumstances were able to offer some very generous assistance!

Hats off and a big thank you to Porsche GB!

Well, I shot myself in the foot really!……...I still can't really afford the callipers but after such a generous offer to help it would have been rude not to! …..

    930 Brakes...

I also plan to fit an adjustable bias to the brake system and the cable below used by the rally Ford Escort boys was recommended.

Not overly keen on the look of aluminium turning knob…..black anodising or painting will help although would ideally like to change this for something a little more period in appearance…..any suggestions?

    Cheers,
