    Cars that've been elaborately restored --- dipped/stripped/blasted/baked/etc . . . or thoroughly/extensively cleaned/re-finished/personalized . . . or (gulp!) damaged/rusted . . . will almost always show some trace of that in their smuggler's box

    I've re-built motors and fixed + re-painted bodywork --- but I've never restored a car . . . or owned one. I like 'old' cars. I like the way 'old' looks . . . the way it feels . . . the way it works . . . the way it smells

So, when I go looking at an Old Car? . . .

    . . . oxidized paint
    . . . crusty/dinged-up wheels
    . . . moth-eaten carpeting + upholstery
    . . . dingy/stained head-liner
    . . . dull gauges
    . . . dirty/un-scarred fittings + fasteners

    . . . and --- in an Early 911? . . . a dry/dusty/never-touched smuggler's box

    = 'old'

Keep in mind that --- when it comes to Porsches . . . this is not the image that most people have in their heads. And Old Skool PCAers are notorious for their enthusiasm for tidiness + attention to detail. So --- seeing something like this? . . . on a Porsche? . . .

    . . . isn't enthusiasm. This is entropy

And --- for ME . . . entropy trumps enthusiasm

So the suggestion here is not even clean the dust and dirt in smuggler's box area?

No-no-no, H --- this is just an example the kind of 'crustiness' that I look for . . .

    . . . and I love 'old' --- as in nasty/mangy/original/un-restored . . . cars

    Also --- remember . . .

I'll never know what 18 mph feels like. These tires/wheels will be strictly for the grass. I think I'm going to leave the 44 year old inner tubes in them just for bragging rights.
