Bruce Meyers Whittington 935 K3 Seized by DEA

Bruce Meyers' priceless ex-Whittington Brothers 1979 Le Mans 24-Hours winning 935 K3 was seized by DEA agents today at a private track day at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

The Feds had a Federal Court seizure order from the Eastern District of California describing the car as proceeds of a criminal enterprise. The car was always rumored to have been purchased from Erwin Kremer with $250K in cash that had been sewn into a driving suit when Kremer insisted that Klaus Ludwig was going to start the race unless the Whittingtons bought the car (which was normally only worth $175K at the time). Apparently Don never got over the recent multi-year federal court litigation with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum, and still feels that the car is his asset. Unfortunately for uber-collector Bruce Meyer, a federal judge seems to agree (for now)...

In typical Government execution, the Feds simply drove up with a flatbed and dragged this year's Pebble Beach Concours class-winner away to the impound yard (probably some open-air affair in Salinas). Who knows what damage has already been done to Bruce Canepa's fabulous restoration? Oh, the humanity!

Glad he can laugh about it.

The Whittington Chronicles never seem to end. Amazing.

Oh man... I was just with Bruce a month ago, looking at his collection, and he was so proud of this car. I hope he gets it back quickly and safely.
Bruce is one of the nicest guys around, and hugely passionate about cars.

But what a story he has with the DEA seizing it! This photo, he in his race suit, should go next to the one of him selling back the speedster to McQueen.

Amazing that Bruce is cracking a smile. He and Jenner were just at Super Cars last Sunday in Woodland Hills with Bruce's 300SL Roadster.

This will work out soon. Doesn't take much to get a judges order like this unfortunately.

This action means that a lot of 935s are now at risk of being seized. A few 962s as well.

This article puts things into a larger context. Some jets seem to have been seized as well.
