Thread: Bruce Meyers Whittington 935 K3 Seized by DEA

Pretty sure I read that the pump timing isn't all that important. Porsche tried to get more power by phasing the injection and there wasn't any significant difference with + or - 20 degrees of injection timing. And they would run 180 degrees off- the fuel pools behind the intake valve but it gets in the chamber eventually so it runs, just not well.

My source is my (often faulty) memory of an after-hours conversation with BC last year when he was showing me the fully-dressed motor before it went into the car. He was particularly proud of the pump, as he had spent months tracking one down. As I recall, his source was Kremer Brothers racing manager Achim Stroth, who BC and BM had flown to Scotts Valley to consult on authenticity of the restoration. Apparently it wasn't a simple matter of swapping belts -- there was quite a bit of Rube Goldberg to get things turning so that enough fuel went into the cylinders to limp the car all the way from the Hunaudieres Straight through Mulsanne, Arnage, and Maison Blanche back to the pits -- about 4 miles. Max is correct that the mixture didn't have to be too precise so long as the car finished the lap under its own power. Thus Manfred Kremer's comment to Jerry Woods about how Klaus Ludwig or Bill Whittington would never have figured it out...

If only cars could talk... I suspect that Gumby1953 probably knows even more secrets about that car's checkered past...
