In 1968 the legendary "24 Hours of DAYTONA" was born. There are not many race tracks that host 24 Hour races. Only one remains unchanged: DAYTONA.
Now HSR announces A CLASSIC 24 HOUR RACE dedicated to cars that have raced in the DAYTONA endurance races of the past.
High speed, High banks and a Long Night. 6 period correct race groups competing on a rotating schedule. Open to all significant sports cars from 1961-2010.

It is scheduled on our 2014 calendar.
That must be a great event.

It will be a trip to race around for 55 minutes on my 2 liter followed by 55 minutes in my 3.8 liter Cup. I wonder which I will enjoy the most.

I believe it will be open to spectators as HSR events usually are. I will ask to be sure and post back with info.

How many significant cars do you think will show up ? Or is this a normal HSR write a check and race anything and run the 24 HR race.

Hi John!

You know that HSR's Daytona has in the past attracted fans from far away places. I hope that the novel schedule will attract some significant cars. I think that part of the issue with not having as many significant cars rests with the fact that at HSR we race hard. When I participated on Legends, it almost felt as if passing was frowned upon; actually, I had a gentleman come talk to me because I was going too fast on the back straight at Sebring. That is OK and there are places for playing with those cars or at that level (Targa 66 for example).

I hope that with the renewed interest in vintage racing (based on my personal observations at COTA with SVRA) the event will be a success.
