Mine was outta state for 23 years --- but when I requested an abstract after returning the car to CA? . . . everything came up

The way I interpret CA DMV's policy is that a non-registered vehicle's records get purged after some period of time

    But --- once that vehicle re-registers? . . .

    . . . ANY/ALL history becomes available

    Fingers crossed, my friend

I sent the application in, but came back only with most recent owner + current owner (my info)

I believe they created a new file when I registered the car at the CA DMV with the black plates. I'm following another lead to try to get in touch with one of the prior owners that may have more information. I wrote him a letter a few weeks ago. Fun stuff! Hopefully something will come up!

I'll PM you about that license plate holder! A few years ago I was able to source one, but only with VW logos!

Amazing drive from Boston to NY, where we now reside, after having the Elephant Racing Street Performance suspension kit + few other things installed. I have no words to describe the handling improvement, but more important, how much more fun it is to drive the car now after replacing the old and tired suspension. It was such a fun trip that the 80-90 degree weather with no AC was barely noticeable... if there's anything going on in NY, please let me know!

Thanks! Upgraded a few months ago to 205/55/15 Dunlop DZ102. Really happy with the look but even more with the feel of these tires. They handle really really well.

    Hello Diego

I imagine you are happy that you did not sell your 69, your car is looking really good! I have a 70 Coupe and I am trying to decide how far to go with the suspension and tires. My plan is to run 6 x 15 fronts and 7 x 15 rear rims. What kept you from going to sportier tire like the Avon? What did you do with your torsion bars? Do you mind telling me what you think is a worthwhile direction to go with the elephant racing products. I see you also have different anti-roll bars. Did you go with a Guard differential as well?

    Happy is an understatement!

As far as the wheels go, I believe 6x15 is the widest that fits comfortably under the body. You can use a 7R wheels in the rear, but as you know they are expensive and tire availability is pretty limited. You can always have 15x6s modified or buy 7R replicas (I believe www.group4wheels.com makes them). I was thinking of having the same 6x15 + 7x15 set-up, but after talking to people in this forum and at the shop, I realize that with my spec '69T engine I really didn't need it. When prioritizing projects I decided to leave this upgrade for the future, when and if I decide to spice-up the engine. I’m sure people in this forum can help figure out all the details since I stopped my research after I decided to prioritize other things.

In terms of tires, I decided to go with the Dunlops because I wanted something I could still use for everyday driving. I've never tracked the car, so I wanted something more versatile. Having said that, I've never tried the Avons but went with the recommendation of my mechanic who did the suspension work (he was the crew chief and race engineer at a Porsche and at a BMW racing teams; owns an outlaw 356 and a rally 80s 911 – this may not mean much but he definitely knew more than me!). They handle really well; having said that, my old tires were like dull ice skates and I the new tires were changed at the same time of the elephant racing set-up.

For the suspension, I started off with the Elephant Racing Street Performance 2 package and added the RSR Sway Bars, the rear sway bar mounts and all the bushing kits. They didn’t have the plug and plated 27mm rear torsion bars (and they were not going to have them for months) so we decided to go with the sway-a-way torsion bars, which they oddly define as more “economical” but cost $50 more. The final torsion bar/shock configuration was 21/27 with HD Bilstein Shocks – I wanted to improve handling significantly but still be comfortable for the street.

I did not add a guard/limited slip differential – maybe when and If I do engine/transmission work.

The set-up is amazing, but again, I went from stock suspension and bad tires to the current set-up, so it is like driving a completely different car. I can’t describe how much fun and enjoyable has been to drive the car. Hope this helps.
