Sorry to hear about your problems with the DMV. Glad you got it sorted out though.

I just went through this with my black plate 66'. Fortunately the PO had a non-op on the car and I went to the Auto Club and was out of there in 15 minutes. I will avoid the DMV at any cost.

A couple of weeks ago I decided to start researching the history of the car and today I can finally say I've made some progress! I guess this is just the beginning. I was able to find the information of one of the prior owners and got his e-mail address. This was his reply:

    "Diego,

This could be our old 911T, but if it is, your pictures look like someone lavished a great deal of care on this car after we owned it.

The car we owned had a four speed [CAR STILL HAS THE FOUR SPEED], not a five speed box and we had a ball with it. We lived in Santa Cruz at the time and sold it to a Silicon Valley guy sometime around 1976-78. The person we purchased it from claimed that one of the big star pitchers of the 1960’s era Dodgers (Koufax or Drysdale) had owned it before we did. But who really knows?

One somewhat annoying thing popped up a year or so after we owned it. An earlier owner had installed a very basic security system that was hidden away in the front trunk. Periodically and at inopportune times the alarm would go off and I would have to madly rush to the horn and pull the connecting wire to shut it off. Later, when the wire was reconnected, the horn behaved normally usually until we were in a very Gucci location and then sounded off again with the same embarrassing drill to quiet it. No, I apparently was too lazy to fix it.

Good luck and have fun with the car. If you did the restore job I am really thrilled to see what you accomplished."

    CA DMV do

    Try checking the car's CA registration history = form INF-70R. See post #341 . . .

Thanks for the tip. I'll definitely try this. However, I believe they purge the records after 4 years of no activity or current registration... the car was parked for 28 years!!! I'll keep you posted on the events!
