Im pretty sure I know why there is a difference. Those hinges (with the short levers) are a carry over from 65YM 356Cs and SCs. The factory soon discovered that they had F*^ked up in the design. The lever would move forward and allow the gears in the hinge to separate and cause the seat back to recline unexpectedly. They added a roll pin in the lever to stop that sometime in 66. I can take pictures of both hinges if there is interest. I'll just have to dig through my archives ( a huge pile of crap) to find 2 examples. To tell the truth, I never noticed the difference in the length of the levers but it makes perfect sense

    Regards

This illustrates the missing pin Jim pointed out. That pin rides on the collar and holds the lever from moving, keeping the conical geared teeth of the seatback engaged - when it is not engaged the seat back will fall backwards shocking and scaring your passenger.

So lower was casting 901.105.116.02 without a date stamp?

And upper was casting 901.105.115.02 also without a date stamp?

Hi guys, just joined the forum, found this fascinating thread. I'm in UK, my car is '65 RHD Chassis 300882 (Signal Red) believe to be built in 64, invoiced 20th of April 1965. Will be adding details from the spreadsheet features when I get back to UK from a trip.

It might be of some interest to you that chassis number 300828 (which formerly transported Jayne Mansfield) is currently--sorry, FORMERLY for sale at Export 56 in Bedfordshire www.export56.com/cars/1965-porsche-911-coupe-2

American stereotypes hold that Bedfordshire--being in the UK--must be near to you. Should you go to visit, suggest to them that the athletes who compete in American Football are not "footballers" they are "football players."

As it turns out they are 15 min drive from my house and I never knew they even existed Marked as Sold now, would have been interesting to know the price.

I have production data to Feb 2, 1965 and 300882 was built much later; probably March or early April. Only 232 completed in calendar year 1964.
