This must be 1963 or early 1964, 901/902 proto:
The car also does not have any side spears. Prototype?

Alex, its most likely proto Chassis 13321, built 1963.

I guess only Protos had this but wondering if any 64/65 car has it, you never know.

That picture appears in a German-language brochure for the 901 printed in October 1963 so it pretty much has to be a prototype.

The 901 at the 1963 Frankfurt auto show was yellow (probably champagne yellow) and might well be the car in that photo.

I have this 901 brochure, btw.
The 901 at the 1963 IAA Frankfurt was Chassis 13325 yellow. Its not the car pictured in the 901 brochure.
The white on the 901 brochure was either 13321 or 13322, both white.
BTW, Jim therfore its 1963 cant be 1964 you re right, of course.

I just scanned more than 100 pics of 1964 cars, but no white one with open hood found.
I do have a pic of the lock of car 170, currently for sale in The Netherlands, light Ivory. The car is restored. If this was originally black at all, it might have been lost in action of course. Not sure this adds much to any conclusion on the feature.

Txs Kenik for your input. We have had more input from MY 66 owners which is appreciated, but will not publish it here as we focus on first half 1965. Your listing confirms that during the summer of 1965, teh rubber mats seem to have returned. I have seen 1964 cars with rubber mats, but early 1965 they seem to have vanished, to appear again in the summer of 1965.

Here is another shot of the car first shown on my post 114.

It does has angled exhaust tip ("angled tail pipe"). And as seen on post 114, also black underneath the front hood.
Wondering if any angled exhaust tip equipped car would also mean black underneath front hood treatment..Car 492 has both details.

And also does not have side spears (trim) under the doors.
