    Solex Air Cleaner

    Look at this!!!

Hattrick has a for sale item the needs a look at-
    http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...eaner-Assembly

I am reposting his photos here to make sure they are searchable in the future.

Note the left and right side air horns are two different heights.
One is a shorter height without a cap indent. We will be looking at the inside of that in a moment.

The other side, which is part of the Air Filter is taller in height and has a indent seam around it's cap. Also note it has a corner flattened to clear the engine lid.

The inside is what I would like to focus on:
The shorter of the two is without a center baffle (directing air to air horns) while the taller side has a center baffle with three air inlets centered on each of the carb barrel.

As a comparison study I am including a different air cleaner (from a 1964 car) that has tall cans on both sides - baffles on both sides and a flattened corner. Sorry I did not keep this example to review the stamped date. (This will be in a separate post as the order or the photos is not as desired).

My estimation is Wades air cleaner has 1/2 of the holy grail prototype to very early 1964 cars air cleaner that only shows up in prototype engines photographed for the very first Drivers Manual photos.

    Any thoughts?

    Solex Air Cleaner comparison

Here is the inside of a 1964 cars matching sides air cleaner - both sides are the same height and both sides have the interior air baffles.

I am confused. I thought the baffle-less shorter type was earlier type and the baffled taller type was the later type.
Anyone wanting a shorter baffle-less right hand section can contact me as I have one spare. Looking for $1500 plus shipping from Scotland UK.

    I agree I thought baffle-less was earlier??

Proof being that the baffled side is the side with the 6/65 stamping making it late style???

Good question. The only info I have is that the one with the hole in the middle is 1964, and the other one is 1965, but I cannot imagine this as I have seen several of these already. I would guess it was changed sometime 1Q 1965.
