    webasto timer referb

Does anyone know how to rebuild a webasto timer box. I opened mine up yesterday, and tons of rust and brittle parts. was quite bummer. Most everything else is in decent shape and can be restored. Not the control box though. If I knew how it worked, I am wondering if I can "update it" with more modern components. I have the repair manual, but all it really says about everything is the parts are not repairable, and must be replaced.

Just looking for advice on how to proceed with this project.

I have the webasto manual. Ok with that. The timer is what I need to understand. there is not much on the timer in there. Mine is in pretty bad shape..

your timer will never ever get back together again. the bimetallic strip is the "timer". it then activates several microswitches. Because it was mounted upside down and under the cowl drain which resulted in a rust bucket relay. Your best bet is to update to the solidstate firing box, "spark generator", which has two versions of gas heater, one with micro switches at the air inlet"heat sentinel", the second version with with 3 solid state heat "discs". If you do not have a perfect early timer box, forget trying to make P-1018 v1.0 work. Time to source the update, which does work better.

thanks for the info. I kind of thought this thing was beyond hope. the mounting explains all the rust. I am assuming that the solid state firing box will be something I can get from webasto. I guess I need some more info on this option. I am learning a good bit about this thing, but still a newbie

OK ao more reading on this. I still need to find the timer box, but it it the one with the Plug as opposed to the spade connectors. I am guessing that this thing was a delayed circuit, to allow the glow plug to get up to temp before dumping in the fuel air mixture. Has anyone tried to update this circuit to make the timed delay for the two components. Also does this box have any safeguards that it must handle ??

there really is not much technical stuff about this option out there.
