    4080828 901/02 mag or al

Based on the location of the serial number I believe this is a magnesium case. Can someone confirm from serial numbers list if it is or not. I need to repair a stripped transmission mounting stud and it seems time-serts are not recommended for mag.

What is the build #? All the info you need is in the build # thread anyway.
If the serial faces the rear it is Al, if it faces the right, then it is Mg. Don't need to even know the serial.

Serial number faces the side, this led me to believe it was magnesium however I wanted to double check in case there were aluminum engines with side facing serials. I thought magnesium cases started in 69. Build # is 12633.

Yep Mag, too far above 12000 to be Al. It was the trans cases that changed in 1969, engines were in 1968.
Already in my list I see. What is the pairing # on the top of the case (if you have the fan shroud off)?
