Advice needed for engine tin refinishing

I have a 73 T Targa with mostly original paint which I enjoy driving, not a show car. I want to keep it original, though. This winter I have pulled the engine for a resealing. While the engine is out, I am detailing the engine compartment and have found some areas of minor surface rust. I plan to address this with rust convertor and touch up. I have found that the engine tin has peeling paint. How is this best refinished? Also, what about the fan? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

Powder coat the tin and have the fan done back to original. There is a person on this board who does great work.

I have a local powder coater who does this kind of thing- He burns off the old paint, does a quick n gentle cleaning with I believe silicon oxide, then does double powder coats since one coat leads to edges being too thin. I have found about a 60% gloss is very close match to the original factory painted gloss, not exact but quite close.

powdercoating is wonderful stuff, durable, clean, CHEAP and fast. However the tins have to be perfectly fitted, no bends or tweaks after coating or you risk breaching the seal. I prefer the blast and paint, matches the original, and can be redone/touched up if needed. Just my 2 cents, spend yours where you like.

Which paint do you use, Series900? I'm going and back and forth on paint or power coating. Leaning toward paint, although I understand I'm in the minority.

PPG dp epoxy flash coat followed with Dcc urethane black. I add flattening agent as needed with temperature and humidity in mind to give a bit less than full gloss. Spray out a test panel and adjust the gloss.

The original pieces were dipped in semi gloss baking enamel. Powder coating looks great and is tough but it doesn't look stock and won't touch up. Spraying is the closest available.....

Do you spray the POR15, 66S? Or buy it in a rattle can?

It can be sprayed or brushed on the tin. I usually brush it on, it flows out well.
