    'Versuch' Cars

I'm not exactly sure what these cars are

'Versuch' literally means 'attempt' (as a noun) or 'to try' (as a verb). But, when it comes to Porsche, the term comes closer to 'experiment' . . . 'test'

Now, all of the cars in this thread have some connection to 'Versuch' as shown (usually) by their Kardex. But what 'Versuch' means, in terms of the features/uses/histories of the cars themselves . . . not really clear. Some cars are obvious prototypes --- w/ special production numbers, odd-ball engine numbers, etc. But one is 'just a car' --- unusual only for its usualness . . . and whose assignment to 'Versuch' + what purpose it served there . . . not obvious/known

No idea how many of these cars were built. In most cases, their 'Versuchness' only shows up when their Kardex does, so . . .

    One such car did just recently turn-up --- out-of-the-blue, so . . . seems only fitting to start-off w/ that one . . .

My friend has a '66 #303328 and the Kardex says "versuch." Not sure what it could have been a test bed for. It was in the Factory's hands for over a year before being sent to Los Angeles in '67 and arrived wearing 7" Fuchs and also had one on the spare.

    What's the 'Händler Nr'?
Does the Kardex say who the first owner was --- after Versuch?
And any date codes on those wheels?

    Hi Rick
If you are starting a list don't forget this one. If any of you have not read this whole thread, It is worth the time, very well written and the banter back and forth is funny.

    .
    Hey, Bret . . .

Thanks for that. I wasn't exactly sure 'bout this one --- and that DDK thread takes a bit to read through, so . . . . I'll take your word for it . . .

    Anyway . . . .

    VIN = 119200001
    Eng# = 6290001
    Trans# = ?

As you can see from the VIN + eng# . . . this is the very 1st 'E'

    And another ex-Jo Siffert --- see post #12 . . .

    Hi rick
there is also 310001s that was found in South Africa by Greg Bailey on 3/20/2012. It is shown as Versuch on the Chart in the thread from the DDK. Does any one know what book that list of Versuch cars came out of, I would like of read it.
    Thanks Bret
