    Hello,

I have recently acquired a 1966 911 LHD. I am based in the UK (which is slowly sinking at the moment after 2 months of rain).

Can anyone help with the VIN and engine identification: 303408 and 903462. Given the car's life I would doubt its matching numbers. Is the only way to know for sure to order a CoA from Porsche.

    Thanks

    Jon

    Hey, Jon . . .

    Welcome aboard

Lotsa people come here, asking the same thing. Seems like we should almost have a 'Welcome Wagon' thread, here, on this site . . . one that summarizes some of the basics --- of researching 'histories,' etc

    Anyway . . .

Porsche's CoA is prolly your fastest way to confirm the basic details about your car. The 'numbers' part is usually accurate --- but some of the options/terminology? . . . can have 'errors.' The best record is obtained by contacting Porsche's Archives and requesting a copy of your car's Kardex. But getting that little doc can take some doing . . . + another issue

Regarding ownership history, this is something that's prolly more country-specific. In your situation, being in the UK, here's a thread by someone in your country who had some success researching his car . . .

You might wanna reach out to him, as well

    HtH

    Anyway --- glad you found us . . .

    . . . and please tell some more about your car . . .

Why a Porsche? + where you found it + how you bought it . . . what's referred to as The Story --- and you can post that here . . .
    http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...ats-your-story

And pictures of your car, too, please? . . .

    P.s. . . . .

You can also join The Registry and obtain a copy of the membership role . . . which includes details of cars + contact information

You might find a member who's close-by, or someone w/ a car that's just a few numbers away from yours --- or even a previous owner . . . . ya never know

Thanks - I will join up.

Its a 1966 car, LHD. Originally from the US, imported to Finland in 1994 and brought to the UK in 2004. Its in full FIA and MSA rally specification at the moment. Been in a barn in Wales for the last 3 years. Hasnt been rallied much in its post US life. Very solid car, little rust, no accident damage, underside remarkably good for a rally car. Engine is a 1965 I think with S camshafts and Weber carbs, putting out about 160bhp I am told. Gearbox is close ratio with LSD, recent rebuild. I plan to get it home and then have a think about what my plans are. Top of the list is to make a good regularity rally car out of it which could be a lot of fun and is a popular activity in the UK. Will post photos shortly.
