Not at all bc I have a 68 and so does a good buddy. He says he still has his original Elephant hide headliner, but I have not seen it myself.

Edit, gauwd that this is frighten ugly. Looks like a vinyl top from a convertible bug or something. I'm not sure I could bring myself to replace that.

I received the original sample from 66S. It is definitely grey and not Ivory, more like grey. Compared to the samples I have in hand, none of them match the sample from 66S. The closest in color and hole pattern in the Grey from GAHH, but the texture on their vinyl is much more pronounced. The GAHH has a wrinkled skin pattern where the original from 66S has no wrinkles and only small little dimples. The sample from SMC does have the little dimples, but the color is not even close. Then there is the thickness and "hand' to the material, which to me is less important bc you will not actually be touching it but I figured I would comment. The original is very thin, the GAHH material is quite thick and nice. Has a great stretch to it and seems like it would be very nice to install, not that I would know anything about that. You will see the original dirt on the sample as well as where I lightly cleaned the piece. If I were buying today, I would go with the GAHH Grey sample. Pics below.

That's awesome! And it looks just like the headliner in my car. Sadly there is a 3" rip above the driver's head and some rust stains, but we'll still try to keep it. Still enjoying the images you sent Radmund! I hope they didn't lynch your ski waxer if he has arrived back home from Sochi yet He did pretty well overall tho, so I imagine his life will be spared!

    cheers - mike

Great work Mark and very kind of Rick to contribute with the original material!

But do we know for sure 65-67 headliner material was the same and from what year is 66S´s sample from??

I will take some pictures of the headliner in my car that is actually not that bad and maybe from another supplier. Attaching a pic from a 65 headliner. I will take better pictures next time I pass by this car.

Mike: I was watching TV last night when the last flight with athletes arrived from Sochi. Could not see the male cross country team waxer. Guess he was already lynched or sent to a Gulag forced labor camp in Siberia. Sorry about US hockey! I had hoped to see your team against Canada in the final.

    Cheers, Radmund

Not to hijack the thread, but has anyone got any experience of cleaning their old headliner whist in-situ? If so, care to share the technique, materials, and outcomes? I had been thinking to replace (if I could find a NOS liner) but after reading this thread I'm leaning more to cleaning what is there...

No I don't know if they are the same and I don't know if Rick's car is a 66S, only that his username says 66S. Rick can you confirm this? Anyone taking pictures, please get very close to the material, within inches. iPhones take great closeups as long as they are in focus. Far away shots don't tell us much. Stephen, can you shoot a closeup of your 66? Does anyone have an idea if they had different liners for different levels of cars?

    Hi Bryan,
I have been in contact with Dan. He got his headliner from Marek. He gets them from a guy in Germany, not Porsche. I´m aware the pic is not good enough, but working on it. At least interesting to know there are more suppliers out there. (Please chime in Marek if you read this)

I have sent a request about this to a detailer-guru. Will get back to you if he has any advice.

To clean a headliner I would first start with a light brush, like a nail brush, and some viniger and water. If this did not help, I would move to a very mild soap and water. You might also try a steam cleaner if you have access to one. I have a professional steam cleaner and it does amazing work cleaning stuff. If your headliner is stained yellow though like mine I don't think you will have much luck. Plus it is likely very old and brittle. If it is supple but dis colored, it would consider a vinyl spray done properly if the color is available. I would bet once sprayed you would never know. It would requir a huge amount of prep though before spraying to get it right. Good luck. No I am not a Detailer, just a very anal cleaner
