73T Drives to it's new home...

    Hi Folks,
Thought I'd share newest addition to the family. Bought it because the OEM color, 55-BeigeGrau, is interesting....and it's matching numbers. I didn't even consider whether it was an S, T, E.. whatever. Basically bought it sight unseen. We had only ever discussed picking it up by enclosed transport but at the last minute I decided to drive it home as the weather forecast was supposed to be clear & relatively warm (+3C). And I was overdue for a road-trip. I brought my emergency roadside repair kit, a cell phone & my CAA card

Arrived at the sellers house some 470 km away. After the paperwork was done he asked where the transport truck was and I replied, oh it's in Toronto, I'm driving your car home. And with that, I mounted my dealer plate and drove off.

I made one 15 min fuel stop in Trenton to top up from 2/4 and a 1/2 litre of oil. For a 41 year old car which I'm sure was only ever driven sparingly on warm summer days (Milky residue on inside oil cap), it ran flawless. For me, this T is an S. The lower torque curve makes it a much easier to drive if I were to ever drive it on a daily basis.... hmmmm. Just one little problem. I really wanted a Targa & now I have one. This road trip confirms I really want a Coupe...

Welcome aboard. Our Cali friends won't identify with this suggestion much, but knowing the winter you had (are having?) and after a long 401 blast, be sure to pressure wash the underside asap to get rid of all that salt residue! Don't give up just yet on the Targa - spring is coming.

You might have noticed a black Audi Q5 filling up at pump 3 at that ONroute. That was us, returning from an extended family day weekend trip to Mont Tremblant. I believe you were standing behind us when you took that picture. Nice car. What direction are you going to take with her ? Just drive it or ditch the tail and restore to the original colour ? I've seen a Singer 911 in the original colour and it is very classy.

Awfully brave of you to drive with all the salt on the highway. Especially with the salt filled puddles.

Obviously you aren't as concerned about salt on the road as some of us. Can't say I'd ever opt for the road over a transport truck when transporting a collector car in winter in Ontario.

Original color (will) looks great: +1 on the coupe; I passed on many targas.

Brave to drive it in the winter with all the salt on the roads ... Hope you have a humidity controlled garage and a good system to clean underneath to get all the salt off. If you ever consider a road trip to Ottawa, let me know!

I think if I saw someone filling up at a gas station in an early 911, I would have to go be nosy... much to the embarrassment of my family!

Oh I would have gone over too. My wife gassed up her Q5 and I was stuck watching from the Timmys line inside.

Congratulations, sounds like your going to have fun with this project. As a fellow Targa owner I also have coupe envy but not on sunny days!

Best solution get one of each!
