Do these period pictures of an early RS taken in first half of 1973 help clarify?
This is the British market RHD press car photo from February 1973 publication (first series M472). It's chassis #61 iirc and certainly a 1972 production RS. Area between the wheels ( rocker / sill) under the long silver trim piece is quite well defined.
...and the same car, similar shot taken for a May 1973 publication ..

Regarding specification the words about underbody protection in the May 1973 source says...

This is a screenshot showing another GP white/blue RS M472 leaving the factory brand new on a road transporter - likley filmed in 1973, (based on date and other content in the short movie - such as 73 Daytona winner already being back at factory), but this segment could have been shot in 1972 sometime after the factory annual shutdown.
Image is blurred due to original source being a low quality movie film produced in that period but this screenshot from it is clear enough (especially when reviewed together with photos from my previous post) to distinguish if it is body colour (white) ...or... black, that is visible on rockers/sill under the long silver alloy side trim.
Original video is "The One for the Road" 1973 as shared by Brian around 3-4 years' ago. (About - 6:10 from the end of film for those who wish to watch at source and / or who may be able to make the screenshot from it more clear). What it shows is evidence of the factory RS specification ....quite literally ...as RS left the factory during MY 73!
Hope these datapoints help in your goal of ....exactly like the RS was in "factory specification"

Another with black under rockers/sills...
This is a photo I took of of a British-market (EG) RHD RS M472 a number of years' ago, it is not white like those others, nor is it a very light colour. First 500 series car that was produced in 1972. Car had at time reputation of being low mileage and original. Can't date this shot but was pre-digital print and possibly taken at event in 96/7 era when car was circa 25 years old.
Not my car, so can't attest to it being original as left factory in this snapshot, but like shown in period photos of others in prior posts that were demonstrably either factory-gate new or the importers nearly new press demonstrator of early 1973, this one is black under sills/ rockers.

Time to go thank you to all to your support and Help, Benoit
Another generation of Porsche, very fun too
I wonder if there is any correlation between paint codes xxx-8-z and xxx-9-z (that is the paint shop) and the overpainting of the underside with black.
With many of these restorations it is very important to establish these details prior to any work being started.
