How do I remove my distributor?

I'm currently rebuilding a 79 SC engine to put into my 70T. I've following the Engine Rebuild book and have got as far as trying to remove the distributor. The engine is at TDC and I have removed the nut that holds it in place. The book says 'simply slide the distributor out', but it won't budge. It turns freely within the adjustment that is allowed when the nut is loose, but I have no idea how to get the thing out as it just won't simply slide out. Is there some magic trick that i'm missing?

    thanks
    Paul

Sounds like you removed the nut on the distributor to the bracket, try removing the nut on the distributor bracket to the engine.

Which engine are trying to remove the distributor from? If 70 T, then as Curt said you may be removing the wrong nut (bolt) If the SC engine then there is only one nut to remove. It is not unusual to have to pry the distributor up out of the hole since it likely hasn't been out for a while.

Its the SC distributor i'm trying to remove. In fact i can't get the rotor arm off. Perhaps the distributor really will slip off if i can get that off, but it won't budge!

Here's a photo. There's only 1 bolt that holds it on.

Just pull up as you twist. The only thing keeping it in is the rubber seal.

Now that you have been successful with your distributor removal, the rest of the rebuild will be a snap!

I hope so. Just ordered USD 2.5k of new parts for it. Mainly clutch and flywheel as it didn't come with them. I need to buy carbs and new induction then i can nail it back together. Meanwhile, most of the parts i have removed are being cleaned locally. Prices in Poland for reconditioning etc are around 50% of what you would pay elsewhere in Europe.
