The Porsche 911 is perhaps the most timeless design ever seen in motoring history. The car dominated its class as soon as it was launched in September 1963. Today, albeit very much more developed, it continues to attract adulation from enthusiasts and the motoring press alike.

It originally was designated as the Porsche 901 (901 being its internal project number). 82 cars were built as 901's. However, Peugeot protested on the grounds that in France it had exclusive rights to car names formed by three numbers with a zero in the middle. So, instead of selling the new model with another name in France, Porsche changed the name to 911. Internally, the cars' part numbers carried on the prefix 901 for years. Production began in September 1964, the first 911s reached the US in February 1965 with a price tag of US$6,500.

The unconventional and charismatic car evolved at an astonishing pace in its early life, with significant developments occurring annually during the late sixties.

Leaving the factory on 23rd June 1967, this 306 chassis numbered Short Wheel Base 911 was destined to start life in sunny California. Repatriated back to the UK in July 2013, 306693 has been in one family ownership since new. As one would expect, accompanying the car is a considerable history file showing invoices from 1967 right up until 2012, with close to 100 maintenance invoices over the last 45 years.

Along with the large number of receipts in the history file is a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity confirming this example is matching numbers car and comes with a new MoT certificate.

Bodily, as you would expect with a California car; the silver coachwork is in good condition. The interior, finished in black still retains many rare period original features, including rare period door cards, and its original steering wheel.

Iconic in its design and a joy to drive as much today as it was in its production year, this beautiful example is now one of the most sought after marques throughout the world and not only to investor/collectors but also the hardened Porsche enthusiasts. This is an opportunity not to be missed.
