California Festival of Speed - April 4-6

The California Festival of Speed presented by CSF Radiators

April 4-6, 2014, Auto Club Speedway, Fontana

    For complete info, see: http://www.calfestival.org

New for 2014: Your parking fee is good for all weekend! Pay once then come back and see us again (Just keep your armband on!).

In addition to PCA Club Racing and Time Trials, we will have our usual Porsche Corrals, Swap Meet, For Sale Platz, Zone 8 Concours, special Porsche Display (featuring four cylinder cars and 928s this year) and of course, Pirelli Cup Racing – and a few other things I want to highlight, below:

    Volunteers Needed

As will all club events, we survive on volunteers. If you would like to volunteer, please write us at: volunteer@calfestival.org or sign up on http://cfos.motorsportreg.com (see Volunteers). We need people to help with parking, traffic control, and the autocross (including qualified instructors – for those brand new 911s!), just to name a few. The best and most fun way to participate is to be involved!

    Fabulous Fifties Racers!

So much road racing history started in California with the fabulous tracks, cars and drivers; yes indeed those drivers!! They had to have nerves and chutzpah back then - there was barely any safety equipment and flying by the seat of your pants meant flying by the seat of your pants. There were no instruction books about racing because they were figuring it out as they went - they later wrote the books, told and wrote the stories, did the instructing and even designed the tracks.

Want to meet some of them? Come on out to the California Festival of Speed and meet a few of those who were there to make California's amazing and incredible racing history - Ruth Levy, Bill Pollack, Dusty Brandel, Rex McAfee, Marty Goldsmith, Bob Schilling, and Pete Vanlaw. They may not have achieved the fame and fortune of the likes of Phil Hill, Dan Gurney or Ken Miles; but they knew them and raced with them. Come meet them and listen to their exploits and experiences from the early days of racing: they are joining us on Saturday -- straight out of the fabulous fifties!

    Track Laps

Your chance to safely explore this famous raceway in your own car. You will be behind a pace car, driving at safe street speeds. Only seat belts are needed!

    Driving Simulators

There will be three driving simulator companies on vendor row this year: Virtual GT, CXC Simulators, and Sigma Time Attack. Find the perfect accessory for your house – a driving simulator!

    Pagid Brake Tech Session

On Saturday, Pagid Brakes will be hosting a tech session on brake pad technology

    Porsche Experience Center

PCNA will have a special informative display on their new LA area Porsche Experience Center in vendor row.

    Porsche Driving Experience

After a several year absence, the Porsche Driving Experience returns to the Festival! This is your chance to drive a brand new Porsche 911 on our mini-autocross. Come see what these cars can do! Pirelli tires will be supporting this event, giving you the chance to compare different performance tire options. You read that correctly: Test drive a new 911 on our autocross track! Don’t miss this special event!

    PCA Member Package Deal

Special package pricing! Pay in advance you will save $10 on a combo package of parking and track laps. Normally $30, only $20 per car in this special offer. http://cfos.motorsportreg.com

    Hotel Info

Need to spend the night? We have a special rate at the Rancho Cucamonga Courtyard by Marriott. Call 909-481-6476 and ask for the Porsche Club Rate.

    Vendor Row

Looks like we will have the largest vendor row ever! See who’ll be there and why you don’t want to miss this: http://www.zone8.org/events/sponsors.php Don’t miss the food court! More variety! Shorter lines! Better food!

    HRE Super Car Paddocks

Join us on Sunday, as we invite other car clubs to join us as well as invite our vendors to bring in their favorite modified and exotic cars for this amazing display.

    Concours Registration

Concours registration is now open at: http://cfos.motorsportreg.com Get ready for the Parade by letting our judges help you find those little spots you missed.

I never did find "access to the infield". The only spectator area I could find to see any racing was the seats up above pit road with only a view of the front straight. Previous years, I could get to "the infield" and the foot bridge area to see some real action. Viewing sucked this year ! Whose idea was it to block access to the infield area ?

Liability insurance requirements restricted access this year.

Well, I hope that changes next year. Otherwise there isnt much racing to see. It just becomes a social event with a $10 admission fee unless one is entered as a racing participant. I dont hold with that.
PCA seems to have very restictive insurance regulations.
