    Unknown engine configuration please help!

    Hi guys,

    Really hope you can help me out! I bought an early 911 (1969) with the original engine and parts in cases alongside with it. The engine was built in the US by somebody I don't have the name from. A mechanic but I don't know from what company.

    It seems now that the configuration is a little strange. The 2.7T engine (from 1974) has magnesium 2.2E stacks (don't know if they are bored), 2.4T injection pump (don't know if recalibrated) and a single point distributor (when idle already 10 degrees forward and with some throttle 30 dergrees).

    I think the cams are original, 2.0E cams, cause they are not in the cases.

    Car is driving quite fast, a lot of torque in low gear. Could this be a configuration carefully set up or just a couple of parts put together?

    The car is holding back when driving in 5th. 60-70 miles per hour. Lower RPM's and steady throttle it has little hickups and doesn't feel well. When putting the pedal down it immediately picks up and is quite fast.

    Does anybody know something about a configuration like this? Could this be carefully set up or just a wrong mix of parts?

    That is an early 1973 911T 2.4 engine case and should have casting numbers 901.101.101.5R & 901.101.102.4R below the oil tubes. So the MFI pump is possibly original to the case.
    Do you also have the 1969 engine? If so what are the numbers on it? Is it complete?

    Hi Dave, thanks for your reply. It seems strange because on the workorder the mechanic noted the use of a used 2.7 engine. So the casing would not be 2.7 at all?

    I have all original parts (as far as I can see) except the cams and cooling parts incl. alternator, fan etc. Those are probably used on the current engine. The original engine numbers are 6290599 type 901/09 and there is a number in front of it: 18880

    I can take pictures of the worksheets if you like so we can hopefully solve this mystery?

    Ruben, the 2.4 case could have been bored out to accommodate 2.7 cyl/pist. Not un common.

    18880 = build #
    901/09 = 911E 2.0 MFI
    6290599 = serial of 911E
    It would be interesting to know more about the 911E: VIN & paint code on the badge.

    The 2.4 case is one of the last made before the 2.4 CIS engines and 2.7 engines with the "7R" cases. The bottom end is basically the same as the 2.7 except for the cylinder spigot size. It MAY have been converted to a 2.7 before the mechanic rebuilt it. With this engine, it may be better to post on Pelican Parts engine rebuilding forum where many engine mechanics can look at your build sheets and offer advice.

    Thanks for the info, the car is matching and color Tangerine (also original). Nice monster with this engine but needs some adjustments to the engine probably. I will try the Pelican parts forum, let see where it takes me. Thanks!
