    911 T 2 litre distributor replaced

    Hi,

I have been advised by my mechanics that the original distributor - either Marelli or Bosch - has been replaced at some time by a Bosch distributor 0231 159 007 <--- JFE 126 which seems to be a 2.2 S unit.
Is there any disadvantage/advantage in using this distributor in place of either of the original unit/s in my 914-6 ?
The motor is otherwise a standard 2 litre 911 T.
Ed Mayo ? Ed Fall ?

    TIA
    Dennis.

    1971 2.2 911 S - now back in the UK - sob!
1975 Carrera Targa (ROW) - missed.

The 0231 159 007, is the Bosch S unit, (006 is the E) for the 2.2, you should be able to do a search to compare the advance curve differences if you dont have the factory manual which has them as well as the Marelli curve and will tell you what the 2.0 T came with.

I have a 2.2 that was a T that had been rebuilt as I was told to 2.4E specs, it still had the Marelli in it but also had issues, wear inside the advance weights that made it very erratic, I switched to the 007 and am very happy with it, I also picked up a 006 that I am going to try in it to see which I like better. There are many driveability features to the curve, some can be evaluated with the seat of the pants dyno, the biggest danger would be preignition / pinging due to the way the S curve comes on. out side of that no real dangers but you may notice driveability differences if you do still have the stock T configuration.

Not sure if this helps but a bump up either way.

    Regards

Not a problem, I have used the 'S' in 'T' motors, primarily autocross usage, the 'S' curve is a little quicker and I limited the total to no more than 30 degrees total. The 'T' will have lower compression ratio anyway so the slightly quicker advance with the mild 'T' cams won't be a problem.

    Thanks for the responses.
I guess my question was whether to replace the S distributor with the standard T unit.
    Seems not at the moment.

    Thanks,
    Dennis.
