New Member saying Hello and a few questions

    Hi everyone,

I just found the site doing a search for forums pertaining to classic 911's. I currently have a 1988 930 Turbo cab which is black over champagne with 54k miles, and am very excited to be getting a 1970 911T Targa in the next few weeks. My biggest question is:

I have the VIN# but other than getting the COA from Porsche, I don't know how to find all the information I would like to have when I go to view the car and purchase it, such as the original specs, chassis number, engine number, etc. Is there a resource for such things on the web?

I am very much looking forward to becoming a contributing member of the forum!
    Thank you,

    Kevin

    Welcome and good luck.

-Post pics on this board to discuss.

-Order Patrick Paternie "Red Book Porsche 911 1965-2005" which lists all MY infos, accessories codes, colour codes, engine/trans codes, chassis No. in a handy booklet format, about $40.

-If you can, order COA which gives a first info about matching trans/engine/chassis plus original specs (sometimes interpreted with a few faults but still good to have).

Entering the chassis and engine numbers etc as search terms here is also a good idea - you never know what bits of history turn up. Even entering the numbers up to 4 or 5 either side can be a mine of information such as seeing if date codes on wheels correspond etc.

    Good luck.

    Cheers,

    Pre-Purchase Inspection

    Hi, Kevin . . .

Its always a good idea to educate yourself on the numbers + 'nuances' of any car you're considering. Another thing that you my wanna consider is having a full-on 'pre-purchase inspection' done of your prospect --- especially if you can't quite wait for a reference book or CoA

Depending on your location, there may be someone here who can recommend a person/shop for this job

Good PPIs will cost several hundred dollars but . . . . you'll have a much-more detailed understanding of any vehicle after. You'll

    Just so you know . . . I purchased my car sight un-seen/long-distance based on a thorough PPI, so . . .

    HtH . . . . . + good luck!

Any idea why the Paternie book with 1965-2005 is $350 on Amazon, but the version 1965-1999 can be bought for $43? If I am looking for info on a 1970 car and a 1988 car, will it contain the same info in both versions??
