    Auction Description:

Purchased new from Gateway Porsche-Audi in Portland, Oregon (MSRP $8915.00, $8939.90 delivered with tinted glass, radio, speaker, and retractable antenna), this lovely 1970 911S coupe, showing just 126,167 miles of use, has been well-looked-after by just a few careful enthusiasts, and has been in the possession of the current owner for the past 20 years. It has always been garaged, and is described as being an undamaged, rust-free example in excellent condition with largely original Tangerine paint. The black Leatherette interior also presents very well. The seat bottom cushions were rebuilt and new covers installed by Guy Recordon at Guy's Interiors of Portland, known for his Pebble Beach-quality work. The dark gray carpets were also replaced with factory materials.

Around 1994, the entire drivetrain was rebuilt by Heckmann and Thiemann, a well-known Porsche specialty shop in Portland, Oregon. The car has accrued barely 14,000 miles in the years since. The overhaul of the 2.2-liter Type 911/02 engine included the Bosch mechanical fuel injection and an upgrade to modern oil-fed chain tensioners. New OEM pistons and cylinders were installed (the originals remain with the car). Also rebuilt were the five-speed manual Type 901/01 transaxle and brakes. New adjustable Koni shock absorbers replaced the factory originals and a new OEM exhaust system was installed. The car is fitted with Dunlop radial tires on its original Fuchs "Windmill" five-spoke light-alloy wheels. While records and receipts prior to 1994 are not available, the current owner has maintained a careful file of all repairs and maintenance since that time. The car includes its original radio, an owner's manual, spare wheel, and jack.

This very attractive Porsche 911S coupe presents a great opportunity to acquire one of the best and most powerful early 911s in largely original form, retaining its original numbers-matching engine and drivetrain, and wearing its largely original factory Tangerine paint. These early long-wheelbase, small-bumper 911s have been growing steadily in popularity and value for the past decade, and their driver-friendly packaging makes them a joy to use. Capable of brilliant acceleration, a real 140-plus mph top speed, and a thrilling exhaust note, the 1970 911S is a true high-performance automobile widely sought after by knowledgeable sports car enthusiasts.

    1971 Porsche 911 S 2.4 Coupe – FIA Papers

    Estimate: €120,000 - €150,000
    Registration Number: German Registered
    Chassis Number: 9112300088

The 911 S boasted modifications typical of a higher-performance Porsche: reprofiled cam, larger valves, better porting and loftier compression (9.8:1 vs. 9.0). The result was 40 more horsepower for a total 180 horsepower and torque improved fractionally, to 127 pound-feet, but peaked fully 1,000 rpm higher.

Unlike other models, the S lacked a choke, but pumping the accelerator was usually enough for starting. On the other hand, merely blipping the throttle on the freer-breathing S would send the tacho needle zinging to its 7,300 rpm redline. Porsche thus wisely fitted an ignition cut-out that interrupted spark to the plugs near maximum revs, thus protecting the valvetrain from overly enthusiastic drivers.

Naturally, the S also received chassis upgrades to match its extra power. These included a rear anti-roll bar (augmenting the one in front), Koni shocks, ventilated instead of solid-rotor disc brakes all-round and, soon to be a 911 hallmark, pretty, five-spoke Fuchs alloy wheels that cut five pounds from the unsprung weight at each hub.

S gear ratios were evenly spaced except for the five-speed transmission's overdrive top, which was purposely very “high.” It gave 100 mph at 4,200 rpm, hardly a strain for the free-revving flat-six. Pulling max rpm in the lower gears netted 0-60 in eight seconds or less and ran a standing quarter-mile of under 16 seconds at 90-plus mph.

This beautiful 911 S with the desirable external oil filler cap was delivered new on 24th November 1971 to Vienna in Austria. Its original Austrian papers (Einzelgenehmigung) are still available and the car remained in Austria with 4 owners until 1986 and came into the hands of the current German owner in 2009. This well known collector of Porsche cars started a ground up restoration to concours standard which included finishing the car in the stunning light yellow with a contrasting black interior with sports seats. The engine and gearbox was rebuilt and an original RS rear axle fitted, a stainless steel exhaust, Koni shock absorbers, new stainless steel exhaust and 6 inch Fuch wheels.

Supplied with full photo documentation of the restoration and described as being in excellent condition and comes with German historic road paperwork and FIA papers for historic regularity driving.

Out of curiousity, what was he asking? There have been a lot of these lately but not so much of S cars, usually T or E, but since no price I wasn't sure, never called or messaged. Move it to scam if it is so noone gets burned.

No price stated, wants offers. The ad wording has been changed, sounds less scammy now than it did before. Might be legit, the seller looks like he's trying to get a bidding war started over the car.

I always think that myself (BOGUS AD) but it's usually when you see a really low price with a to good to be car. Since the price wasn't there, I thought, mmmmmm, might be legit. I just bought my 68 off of a Senior Member here so I am in NOOOOO position to buy another Porsche no matter what the cost so I didn't even bother checking further. Thought I would share with you fine folks, someone will get to the bottom of it. After I read your response, I actually wrote a reply to see if I could come by and see it and I said, "please send me your address, I am close by." That was late last night, no word yet. I am literally 20 minutes down the toll road if it is indeed in Costa Mesa. So, I will check it out for everyone if he/she gets back to me. Not holding my breathe either. Keep you posted on any development. I haven't seen the new ad yet, going to check now.
