May 65 Shock Tower Gusset Question

    I have two May 1965 911's, 301102 & 301104. I have had 301104 for over a year and recently purchased 301102.
Both cars have modified shock tower gussets welded to the sides and the top of the shock towers. The left photos are of 301104 and the right are of 301102. Was this a warranty item performed by dealers or done at the factory? The gussets appear to be rough welds and the gussets aren't exact.
Any help in clarifying is greatly appreciated.

The factory was known to do that to correct alignment.

that would be an interesting bulletin to read
I guess they had a method of welding that would distort/correct/adjust alignment

On both of my cars there is an additional patch below the Gusset on only the drivers side tower. Is this correct? Seems odd that it is on both cars and only on the left side?
Thanks all for the great information.

I was always told that these were warranty items done at the Dealer. The Gusset was sent to the dealer and they welded them in....
Thus the Sub par welds on Most of them...... Makes sense.

Amazing information! Thanks Haul. Now trying to find out about the additional plate welded to drivers side below gusset on both cars. Factory directed or just added to both cars by coincidence? Doesn't seem coincidental but would like some clarity on it.
    Thank you all
