Marvelous build. Hope to see it in person one day.
Question/curious: is this correct, just not finished, other?
Thought the horizontal lines on top and bottom of PORSCHE would align to the right side of the 'E'

Hi Dave,
Those lines were done deliberately
There’s not a lot of clear pictures of the rear R6 at the Targa Florio but the ones i did find showed the lines shortened.
Going back to the discussion if they used decals or paint, this seems to point to a sticker that got damaged.
We have done it in paint, as have Maxted-Page when they restored R6 a couple of years ago.

Heck yeah! That is so cool. Can’t imagine driving that machine around there.

Patrick....just an outstanding effort with this project! It reminds me of Mike Moore's project in the UK which began in 2007. In case you haven't seen his ddk thread, and the unveiling thread on ESR, here are links to those projects. But you have probably looked at Mike's project thread....right?

Oh yes, I had bookmarked this for years. Such an inspiration!
...and when i started i said that i would never go so overboard as Mike did on his #107 car.... oh how the turntables....

wow, it's been a while since i provided an update.
Things have been slow, with work taking up a lot of my time over the last few months, but to be fair, now I'm so long into this project, I also had a bit of a dip in my motivation.
Anyway, a few things are moving again, so I feel we're back on track.
1) Engine.
We took the original engine (a 1976 mag 2.7 case) apart a while ago and inspected it. It was looking good, so the case can be reused.
I already purchased RSR cams, the 4-bearing cam-housings as well as the covers for cam-oil feeding, the injection pump, NOS RSR High butterfly stacks, injection lines, small fan and some other pieces, but I didn't have any 2.8L (92mm) cylinders and pistons. Those have now been sourced as well, and we've started with building up the engine.
2) Suspension
Also here I bought most of this stuff years ago; I got the correct Bilstein shocks (with coilovers as the original, those just not in titanium), right size torsion bars, A-arms with the anti-rollbar bracket, and a few other pieces (mostly from Elephant racing), but not all of it, so I spend some time to dry fit it all, at least for the front, to see where what goes and what was missing. I needed to order a few bits but I think i can fit it on the car now.
Only thing that remains is to get the old bearings out of the front hubs - anyone know what tool i need for that?
3) Tachometer.
The R6 RSR was different from its sister cars that ran with #107 and #9 in the Targa Florio. R6 is the only one I've seen that has a 917 or 910 Tachometer.
It goes to 10K, as do the others, but the can is 100mm in stead of the 110mm of the 'standard' one, and the numbers are differently placed on the dial.
It also has a blue light (high beam) in a different position and has a yellow single light for the indicator.
Now the original had another feature, a 'tell-tale', which indicated the highest rev count achieved and stayed there, as 917s in particular were prone to breaking down when over-rev'd.
This tell-tale needle could only be reset by the mechanic in the pit (for obvious reasons...) and was driven by another separate gear and cable.
The RSR however didn't really need this, Gijs van Lennep often said that he and Muller were asked to 'go as hard as you can' in those last hours at LeMans in 1973. So clearly that was a sturdy engine.
Anyway, it's an excuse, as I'm not going through the trouble to create the tell-tale. I was making my own 10K tachometer, using a custom made dial when i saw a topic somewhere on a forum of a guy who built the 917 tacho.
Long story short, I got in contact with John Bell and he made me a 917 look-a-like 10k Tacho. I think he has done a great job, including even the adapter ring.
I'm pretty chuffed with it and can't wait to put in the dash next to the other gauges.
by the way - big thanks to Rick (rac390) here on the forum to bringing me in contact with John Bell for this tacho.

"if nothing goes right, go left!"
Impressive, as usual.
These are the last pieces of the puzzle
Next week the clear coat is going to go on, and the week after I will work on the front suspension - so glad to say things are moving once again!
I fitted and connected the new tacho yesterday, but unfortunately the holes for the instrument-illumination light bulbs are too small, so I need to fix that. It does look fantastic though and fits great.
I also tried two of the dymo labels as per the original, and turned the oil/fuel gauge 90 degrees as per the original R6. Other than the black squares over the silver dots (primitive glare prevention) the 'needle' sticker to indicate max revs, and the 'idiot light' between tacho and speedometer, it's getting there.
