Thread: Help me pick wheels/tires for my '68!!

    Willy,

what width are the 951 spare wheels?

and are you sure they are forged, not pressure cast?

All opinions so far much appreciated....thanks!

Still mulling this one over.....the 165's are still winning the poll barely.....

Been thinking about the way I drive this car too....I don't drive it lightly. So, logically thinking, 195's would be the way to go.

But the thought of driving aggressively on the 165s kind of appeals to me too....

The 951 Space Savers are 5 1/2 X 15 and everything I've read about them is they are forged not pressed. They weigh in at 10.5 pounds each and fit perfectly on my 67.

I had a lot of fun with my 67S on 165 vredestein's. They stick much better than you might think, but allow for nice drifting too. They use a very soft compound. The treadwear rating is 100 as I remember. Guys will think your car looks unsafe, but you'll suprise them. At $100 they are quite a bargain.

For some reason I just like the idea of this!

100 treadwear rating, that is very very low....so they're very sticky but will not last that long, not that that matters with these non daily driver hobby cars.

Despite being period correct you really do NOT want 165 rubber on the car. Seriously, they are like motorcycle tires, suitable for winning concours events and little else.
Cool John....but only works for '67, my car is a '68
