    the Quail Motorcycle Gathering

    I know, bikes aren't Porsches, so why am I posting this here. Because I ran into quite a few R Gruppe types who made the short trip from the Hyatt / Treffen to see the vintage bikes, ergo, I thought there must be some interest. Went to the Gordon McCall organized Quail Motorcycle Gathering on Saturday.............on the same field on which the Porsche Race Car Classic Charity event will take place in October, in conjunction with Rennsport IV. Great venue for both shows !!

    Luckily, the weather held, the sun even came out a couple of times, but it was the bikes that really shone.

    Lots of big, black, beautiful Vincents, I think one or more of every other English bike ever made, and some mouth-watering Italian & German machines.

    1. Bonham's had an auction, the bikes on offer were exquisite......as nice as any on the field.
    2. The Concours field.
    3. A venerable Norton that participated in the Isle of Mann TT.
    4. A wonderful mix of tradition and high-tech & carbon fiber - bored & stroked 1000 cc Triumph Trident engine in a Rickman Metisse.

    2. The actual Vincent used to break the speed record at Bonneville.
    3. What has to be the most famous bike on the face of the Earth......went 150 mph in his swimming trunks.
    4. BSA 443 cc single cylinder Victor Special - Best bike I ever had.
    5. Early '60s BSA 650 cc vertical twin

    Great shots, John, especially the Rolly Free/Vincent juxtaposition.

    Did you get any shots of the Green Frame Ducati 750SS (arguably one of the most valuable Ducatis ever built)?

    There was some SERIOUS hardware at the show ... so much to see and so many people to talk to.

    I got to meet Mert Lawwill!! He was such a nice guy and spent, like, 20min chatting with me about his newest endeavor - creating "breakaway" prosthetic handlebar clamps for amputees and people born with disabilities. Awesome stuff...

    Please forgive my ignorance re motorcycles................I've been out of the sport for over 40 years.

    Is the attached photo the green Ducati you're talking about ?

    The BSA was a great bike,remember riding one in Arizona in 70,thought they were 441cc,but the mind is the second thing to go.Thought they couldn't be beat til rode the 125 to 250 Spanish and Japanese bikes through the loose stuff.
