I have searched around and can't see a table or similar for build/production dates of US-sold Karmann 1968 N coupes. My VIN is 11835284 (eng# 3280972). Does any one have an idea of the build date?

Porsche 356B (T-6) S Coupe
Porsche 2008 C2 997 Cabriolet (Sold)
Porsche 2010 Gen.2 Boxster S
I would guess March/April 1968 timeframe.
What is the full paint code stamped on the badge?

I was guessing the same based on the steering wheel date, but was not sure as they may well be different from the chassis/engine dates. Original paint code, is 6808, thanks Dave.

Thanks Merv. Can you check the full code with prefix & suffix that began in 1968 please.

Where will that be Dave? There is no door frame decal. I also have the tranny number 3281282 (902/1)

Dave it has a plate the same as the one you show except it is a Karmann Karosserie one
It has the chassis/Vin:
11835284
and what I assumed to be the Glasurit paint code:
68-6808-G

My book tells me that your Vin# 11835284 is a 911 Karmann Coupe (11835001-11835742), but your engine #3280972 says it is a U.S. 911 Coupe (3280001 - 3281606). Not sure if this is a misprint in the "Red Book", anyone see what I see?

Thanks Merv, that is bang on.
Mike, the red book is rife with errors and misdirection; that is the correct (and most likely original) engine for the car.

Thanks gentlemen, my US CoA also tells me that the engine and transmission are all matching at manufacture. Interestingly on an old workshop receipt I see the date Jan 6, 1968 as a production date. Not sure how that was arrived it, or if it is correct.
So, any update on the possible build date?
