Still Laughing!
I buy cars. Not owners. So, even a 'bad' owner --- no matter how kooky/difficult/insufferable/etc . . . can't pooch a deal --- not if the car's any good
But --- then again . . . a 'good' owner? . . . always seems to add something
Call it karma. Or kizmet. Some owners . . . are simply irresistable
Like Dusty's '71 'E' 9111200404 . . .

. . . and The Physicists he got it from . . .

And, of course, the Kinzers + 119300935 . . .

Here's a thread --- see post #5 . . .

. . . w/ a video . . .

Special kinda re-assurance comes from checking-out what's in the trunk --- and turning-up . . .
1) . . . a worthless old tire --- see post #21 . . .
http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...your-car/page3
2) . . . with a worthless old tube --- see post #28 . . .

Me, too . . . and almost never see it . . .

Think about all those cars whose owners decided to 'clean their fans up' . . .
. . . or on a belly that's not-so . . . .

Not exactly a romantic detail to look for
OG pads are notorious for two things . . .
1) Holding moisture close to the package shelf + rear bulkhead area . . . causing all manner of mischief/mayhem/consternation/dread = rust
2) Catching fire. Fuel/oil/heat + Big sponge/kindling --- + never mind all that magnesium (gulp!) . . . = poof!
IMO --- finding/seeing an OG pad --- in any condition . . . . is something that tells me a lot about the car's life + condition. Fragile little goober, too . . . especially after heat-soaking/-cycling for all these many-many years
Apparently, the patterns on the exposed coverings change some, after '69. I look for the carmel-colored --- OK, baked newspaper-looking . . . stuffing peeking-out at the edges
. . . how could I not mention these. My Personal Holy Grail
Easily damaged/replaced --- + not strictly structural . . . but every time I see 'em like this --- w/ those little stamped drain thingies, still intact . . . or the hand-painted black stuff . . .
. . . gives me The Chills
I still remember this '70 'T' --- sold by 2 Shores . . . a coupla years, back . . .
. . . + 'Gramps' (9110300251) . . .
. . . + the 'Minnesota Barnfind' (9113100478). . .
. . . + others
