    PROVENANCE
Roy Eller, Clemmons, North Carolina (acquired new in 1973)
Current Owner (acquired from the above)

    THIS CAR
Completed in July 1973, this 911 is a desirable, late-production 2.4 T Targa featuring Bosch K-Jetronic CIS fuel injection. In all, just 1,302 CIS Targas were built, and they are regarded as the best-performing of all Ts, delivering 140 bhp and a smooth, torque-optimized power band.

Painted Kelly Green (code 225-9-2) with Beige full leather upholstery, this US-market 911 was generously equipped with a five-speed manual transaxle, sport seats, Fuchs wheels, and tinted glass. As noted in the car’s maintenance record, the original selling dealer, Triangle Porsche + Audi of Durham, North Carolina, installed air-conditioning on September 29, 1973, when the odometer showed just 18 miles.

The remarkable presentation of this unrestored Porsche is a credit to its first caretaker, Roy Eller of Clemmons, North Carolina, who collected his new car in October 1973. Included in the sale of the $11,820 Targa was a set of coco mats and an AM/FM stereo with rear-shelf-mounted speakers. After driving the 911 sparingly, Mr. Eller decided that the car had potential appreciation as a future collectible, and he prepared the car for extended static storage. Last registered in 1987, this 3,400- mile Porsche has been sitting in its original owner’s garage for the past three decades.

The bodywork showcases Porsche’s precise, high-quality fit and finish, retaining its original paint, brightwork, and distinctive US-market equipment. The interior is in pristine condition, showing virtually no wear, and the opening compartments are similarly undisturbed. Marvelous details abound, from the period Aeroquip air-conditioning lines down to the original Dunlop SP Sport Super tires. Other charming features are a 1973–1974 safety inspection tag and a Bermuda Run Golf and Country Club sticker affixed to the windshield, as well as the 1981-issue North Carolina license plate.

Accompanying the sale are the original sales invoice, owner’s manual, emission control system supplement, maintenance record, warranty book, tool kit (partial), and leather key fob. Also included is a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, several registration cards, and various sales documents dating from 1973.

As with any car that has been in long-term storage, it will require inspection and maintenance prior to being returned to road use, but following a sympathetic mechanical recommissioning, this car may serve as a ticket to a variety of automotive events and is sure to star at any Porsche gathering.

Truly a benchmark example of the legendary Porsche 911 and a spectacular time capsule from a bygone era, this rare 2.4 T Targa can be distinguished from its brethren by its fascinating history, wonderful period color combination, rare options, and exceptionally low mileage.

    Auction Description:

    - Stunningly Preserved Original Condition

    - Fitted with Matching-Numbers Engine per Porsche Certificate of Authenticity
    - Displayed at the Porsche Club of America Werks Reunion in August 2017
    - Offered with Tools, Jack, Spare, Owner’s Manual, Maintenance Record Booklet, and Porsche COA

The 1973 2.4 CIS model is considered by many to be among the best “long hood” 911s, and this Sepia Brown over Brown Leatherette 911 T may well be one of the finest unrestored examples extant. This 911 was produced in February 1973, equipped with a Blaupunkt Frankfurt radio, Comfort Equipment, light metal (Fuchs) wheels, and tinted glass all around. Sold new by Porsche Audi of Avon, Connecticut, on June 12, 1973, the car appears to have enjoyed a life of loving care and meticulous preservation. After a period of static storage, it was serviced and prepared to return to the road by highly acclaimed Porsche mechanic Kevin McCarthy of Connecticut. This 911 was deemed to be so brilliantly preserved that it was held for a year while McCarthy’s shop studied and documented it as a blueprint for future restorations. Still in unrestored condition, the 911 features its original Sepia Brown paint finish and upholstery.

Offered with tool kit, jack, date-coded spare, owner’s manual, maintenance record booklet, radio manual and warranty card, Hirschmann antenna key, and Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, this extraordinarily preserved and original 911 2.4 T is a remarkable opportunity not to be missed.

    BaT Description:

This 1972 Porsche 911T coupe was acquired by the seller from the original owner six years ago following a period of storage. A complete restoration was completed last month and included a bare-metal repaint in the original Aubergine, as well as installing a 911S steel front bumper and rocker trim. The suspension was overhauled with new shocks, struts, ball joints, tie-rods, bearings, seals, and several powder coated components. A new brake master cylinder was also installed along with new brake lines, pads, rotors, and rebuilt calipers. The 15″ Fuchs wheels were refurbished and fitted with new tires. The 2.4-liter flat-six and 5-speed manual transaxle were rebuilt prior to being reinstalled, and Weber 40IDA carburetors were added. A new flywheel, clutch plate, pressure plate, clutch cable, motor mounts, and throw-out bearing were installed, and the interior was prepped and treated with POR-15 before being fitted with new seat foam, seat covers, door panels, windshield, and more as detailed below. This 911 has also been aligned and corner balanced, and it is now being offered with restoration receipts and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The car was disassembled as part of the restoration, and the tub, fenders, hood, trunk lid, and doors were stripped to bare metal prior to being painted in the original Aubergine (025). All new door seals were installed and the rear bumpettes were re-chromed. Modifications to the body include a new steel 911S front bumper with spoiler, 911S rocker trim, and Hella halogen headlights. The deck lid grille was refurbished, and a new engine displacement badge was added along with new front and rear blinker buckets, seals, and lenses.

The 15″ Fuchs wheels were refinished with black painted centers and wear four new Dunlop tires. A brake system overhaul included a new master cylinder, brake lines, pads, a reservoir, rotors, and rebuilt calipers at all four corners. The suspension was disassembled and most pieces were powder coated black. The nuts and bolts were removed and re-zinced or cadmium plated per factory specification. New parts included brackets, nuts, bolts, washers, shocks, struts, ball joints, turbo tie-rods, bearings, seals, trailing arm bushings, and spring plate bushings, as well as others documented in the restoration receipts.

Prior to being restored, the floors were coated with satin black POR-15. Per the seller, the floor pans were rust free and the correct radio remains in place. Original parts include the front dash vinyl, arm rests, rear quarter window trim, and headlight rings. The headliner is reportedly the correct material and color per factory specifications. The odometer shows 52k miles and is believed to be accurate.

New and refurbished interior parts include the following:

    - Windshield and gasket
    - All new door, window, and trim rubber
    - Dash recovered in black
    - New seat foam and seats reupholstered
    - New door panels and door pockets
    - Recovered arm rest and arm pads
    - New carpet
    - Recovered rear fold-up seat assemblies
    - Recovered rear side panels and luggage tray
    - Off white headliner and sun visors
    - Sunroof rebuilt with new cables and seals
    - New stainless steel drivers door mirror

The 2.4-liter flat-six and 915 5-speed manual transaxle were rebuilt, and Weber 40IDA carburetors with a new linkage kit were added. The engine bay was powder coated satin black and the heater boxes are reported to be in good condition. New and rebuilt engine parts include the following:

    - New wiring harness
    - Rebuilt alternator
    - New CDI ignition module
    - New engine sending switches
    -Clutch assembly
    - Flywheel
    - Clutch plate
    - Pressure plate
    - Throw-out bearing
    - Clutch cable.
    - New motor mounts
    - New muffler

All new fuel lines were installed along with a new fuel pump, pressure regulator, and an OEM fuel tank. The Porsche CoA confirms the original color as Aubergine (025) and lists the factory options.

Very nice 911T 2,4ltr. Coupe year 1972 with oil flap. The condition is very good, the body is unwelded, no rust, no accident.
*The interior, the chrome and the paint also present very well.
The 2.4 T engine (911/51) runs silently soft and clean, the gearbox (915/02 - 5 speed switch) switches smoothly. The Porsche is equipped with the original 15 "Fuchs rims, tinted glass and fog lights.
The 11er was in a collection for about 3 years and is now sold on behalf of the customer.
"Matching" is confirmed by a Porsche COA.
Original color is Lilac 341 (Royal Purple 69), the car was professionally repainted in slate metallic (22D - slate gray met.).
The dashboard is without cracks. Black sky without sunroof.
