The info that I have coincides with the actual info that it is a 901/74 five speed with Nurburgring gears; B 14:37 HA 20:32 M 22:29 R 25:27 V 27:25
    901/54 from 9284001 and 901/74 from 9284101
my note shows 901/54 has a regular diff, but no comment on the 901/74 so perhaps a LSD

AFAIK LSD was a separate option from the special gear ratios. My kardex shows 'sperrdifferential' in the options list and 901/52 in the transaxle type.

But you'd have to think that if you're ordering special ratios you might like an LSD as well.

It was a long shot, so not upset that I was wrong. Still, with two series, there must be a difference of significance. It certainly appears to be the Al case, so that is not the change. Could it be the simplified diff was standard on these even if a LSD was a very common option?

wondering if you still have the '68 911L and if you found more clarification about the transmission question. I also have a '68 911, Normal rather than an L, soft-window targa, and trans type 901/74, s/n 9284103 with a build date of 4/26/68. the date is an interesting coincidence, and it has the same internals: Nurburgring gear set, LSD and 904 main shaft.
