Yep, when the idealistic von Braun learned that the first V2 had hit London, he said that it had worked perfectly...it had just landed on the wrong planet. He was very morose until he had his chance with NASA after the war.

    'Idealistic,' huh? . . .

    You really DON'T wanna go there . . .

. . . Operation Paperclip was the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) program used to recruit the scientists of Nazi Germany for employment by the United States in the aftermath of World War II . . . purpose of Operation Paperclip was to deny German scientific expertise and knowledge to the Soviet Union[1] and the United Kingdom . . .

. . . Truman's order expressly excluded anyone found "to have been a member of the Nazi Party, and more than a nominal participant in its activities, or an active supporter of Nazi militarism". However, those restrictions would have rendered ineligible most of the leading scientists the JIOA had identified for recruitment, among them rocket scientists Wernher von Braun, Kurt H. Debus and Arthur Rudolph, and the physician Hubertus Strughold, each earlier classified as a "menace to the security of the Allied Forces" . . .

. . . To circumvent President Truman's anti-Nazi order and the Allied Potsdam and Yalta agreements, the JIOA worked independently to create false employment and political biographies for the scientists . . .

Had it not been for his much-prized/sought-after expertise w/ liquid-fueled rockets, WvB would have been in the dock at Nuremberg for the slave labor that was used/consumed to build his V-weapons. Then there were the Soviets. NASA wasn't even a choice . . .

    . . . Father of the American Space Program . . .

thx Rick. I didnt wanted to go into politics. Also, the famous X airplane program by Bell started with German WW2 jets, the delta wing concept as well the cruise missile was first developed in Nazi Germany. Many space/airplane/war inventions of Nazi Germany were later put in use by the US…and Hitler's VW Beetle and tanks by Porsche were a part of it. Plus, Switzerland financed all this...
Here is the Porsche Typ 205 (yes, a Tank)

Here is an appropiate famous Porsche owner family to the above war theme.
Krupp built all WW2 tanks for Nazi Germany...
Alfred Krupp von Bohlen and Halbach's Porsche 356, outside Essen, 1956

The Krupp were also one of the first clients to receive an 901/911.
