Isn't it the case though, that the area behind the horn grill was black from the factory?

Indeed brushed black by the factory, at least on an early model 67 S.

I have been studying all paint details of an early delivered model 1967 to write a manual for my painter. During that exercise I encountered your car. Can you share other paint details please? Maybe via PM (e.g. a set of pictures via WeTransfer)? I am thinking of starting a specific thread for that purpose, grouping all gathered details.

300113 and 300134 also had it this way.
